Our Travel for Credit students spent an unforgettable week exploring Atlantic Canada while earning their Grade 10 Civics and Careers credit through immersive, hands-on learning. 🌎✈️

Students brought classroom learning to life as they explored historic sites, government institutions, museums, and the natural beauty of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. Highlights included visits to Peggy’s Cove, Pier 21, Hopewell Rocks, and the Confederation Bridge.

These experiences deepened students’ understanding of Canada’s history, culture, and communities while creating meaningful opportunities to learn and grow. 🍁

A huge congratulations to Amanda Belluz, principal of St. John Bosco, for receiving the prestigious Baillie Award of Excellence from Queen’s University!🎉

This award honours educators across Canada who have made a meaningful difference in their students’ lives, helping them build confidence and realize their potential.

Amanda was nominated by former student, Oluwamisimi O, who shared:

“She changed how I see myself as a learner and what I believe I am capable of achieving. She instilled in me a love of learning, pushed me toward academic excellence, and helped me believe that I belonged in higher education. I am nominating her because her impact did not end when I left her classroom. It continues to shape who I am today.”

June 21 is National Indigenous Peoples Day, a day of cultural and spiritual significance for First Nations, Inuit and Métis Peoples to honour the summer solstice. We celebrate their rich cultures and histories as we continue to learn and grow together.

Grade 4 students at Holy Trinity brought Ontario Day to life by exploring the benefits of choosing locally sourced foods.🌱🍓 Students discovered which foods are grown in Ontario, what’s in season, and used their creativity to highlight locally-sourced foods in a classroom smoothie challenge.

A big thank you to Zehrs on Eramosa Road and Foodland in Mount Forest for providing ingredients and supplies to support this delicious learning experience.

In recognition of National Indigenous History Month, St. Francis students had the opportunity to learn more about the game of lacrosse🥍

Mekwan Tulpin from Onkwehonwe Games educated students on the origins of the Creator’s Game and guided them through a variety of lacrosse skills and drills. A meaningful, hands-on learning experience that honoured culture, tradition, and the spirit of the game.

Grade 11 & 12 French students at St. James brought language to life at their 2nd annual Journée d’inclusion francophone ✨🌎

Students created an immersive Un voyage à Madagascar–themed workshop for their Special Education peers - sparking curiosity, deepening language learning, and sharing their passion for French.

A huge congratulations to Kira E, grade 10 student at Our Lady of Lourdes, for her amazing work at the Canada-Wide Science Fair! Kira spent last week in Edmonton showcasing her project on squirrel vision and decision making alongside other top young innovators from across the country. She was awarded the Excellence Award, Intermediate - Silver Medal and Challenge Award, Intermediate for Curiosity and Ingenuity.

Reminder: this Friday is a PD Day for our elementary students. All elementary schools will be closed on June 5, reopening to students on Monday, June 8.
