Look at this precious bit of paradise I found yesterday around Nose Hill Park neighborhood.
I got a chance to reflect on my life while walking this labyrinth modeled after one in France. It is the only public labyrinth in Alberta.
A lovely community of gardeners made this magic...

Aug 2026. Wildfires ablaze, the air filled with smoky afterthoughts. The pipeline deal is on the table along with the Separatist Referendum, inviting an inevitable American invasion.
Alberta is Canada's hotspot right now, where the only vision is, and has always been, pure greed. A tragedy when the glorious mountains and its habiting creatures are the most attractive feature.
I stand with the Indigenous Movement out here---the only hope for a sustainable nation that can preserve any ounce of goodness out of the dreadful legacy of colonialism, capitalism and a fossil fuel-based economy.
We are in dire need of a greener future.

Fun fact: I love Prince. And it happens that I am staying at a place in Calgary where the host was part of the marketing team to promote his album, 3121.
What does this have to do with personal growth and transformation?
Well, I used to live in Calgary and it was a rough time in my life. So I have had negative feelings about the place. As a way to get my power back, I meditated and affirmed that I could make this an enjoyable trip, one where I would be in control--I was no longer the victim of this place.
And wouldn't you know, the Universe transpired where I am staying in a beautiful home with a guy who is a mover and shaker in the music industry, bringing me one degree of separation to Prince.
So my affirmations and determination to change the vibe is working. And this is day 1.
Cool, eh? Doesn't mean my nervous system isn't trying to resist the place, but I keep reminding myself that I get to choose how this trip goes...I can do what I love.
That's the power of personal growth work...when you become aware of what's holding you back, you can make new choices that feel right to you instead of falling into a familiar puddle.

Yes. A resilience-mindset can be hard when things feel hopeless. Yet shift into a place of trusting there is a higher wisdom can make one pay attention to the signs and new lessons of self-love.
Thanks for this post, Brenda Backus!
