Good Afternoon,
If you are requesting your foal watch hours to be validated for your DVM application, please email myself or the foal watch email with the following information prepared:
1. Have the total number of hours worked per season that you intend to submit and which seasons you participated.
2. Have a paragraph of the duties you intend to submit on your application in writing in your email for review.
If you do not have this information, validation will not be provided. I also ask that you have patience as there are hundreds of students requesting this information and there are only 2 staff that are able to complete these requests. Any negative comments will result in your removal from the group.
Thank you,
Amy
Foal Watch at the Ontario Veterinary College
This around the clock care ensures that the foal receives the most comprehensive care possible, and helps them get through the most critical of times.
Foal Watch is a program run by the Teaching Hospital (OVCTH), located at the Ontario Veterinary College (OVC) Health Sciences Center, and provides a service to clients who bring in premature and critically ill neonatal foals. Participants in the Foal Watch program may include students from across campus and the community and involvement can benefit the student but also the neonatal foal. Students
Hello everyone,
If possible please attend the meeting tonight as we have a bigger room than Thursday.

Hello everyone,
We are holding General Information Meetings for those interested in participating on the Foal Watch Team this year. The meeting dates and times are listed below:
Tuesday, September 25th: 5:30 pm in LLC (Lifetime Learning Centre) 1714
Wednesday, September 26th: 5:30 pm in PAHL (Pathobiology) Room 1800
The General Information Meeting will provide more information about the Foal Watch program, the application process, time commitments and how the shifts work. You MUST attend ONE of the two meetings in order to get an application.
All Foal Watch volunteers MUST be vaccinated for rabies. Please keep in mind that the vaccination series can take a couple of months to complete, and we also require that you submit a copy of your protective rabies titer (or proof of vaccination, if your titer is in progress) with your Foal Watch application. The titer is a blood test that allows us to ensure that your rabies antibody levels are sufficiently protective (the results can take up to 2-3 weeks). Both the vaccinations and the titer can be done at Student Health services on campus, or you can ask your family doctor or Public Health office for more information. Applications will be due in early October, so we would advise you to plan your vaccinations and titer accordingly. Titers are valid for 2 years (24 months).
Please don't hesitate to contact us at [email protected] if you have any further questions. We look forward to another great Foal Watch season!

Were you a Foal Watcher years ago? Do you remember ALBERT? If you've never met him, guess what? He's in the Foal Watch page's profile picture and cover photo! Albert was a foal who stayed on Watch for quite a while as OVC helped save his life and bring him back to health. This inevitably gave many Foal Watchers the opportunity to gain experience with foals. His owner, Reneta Lumsden, wrote a book about Albert and his dam, The Illusionist! She will be at Guelph Indigo this Sunday 11-3 for book signings! It's sure to be a great read, featuring OVC and our clinicians. Make sure to come on out and meet Albert's human mom and check out the book.
