CSAHS is so proud of Adiia Stone, who won best PhD. Talk at Neuroscience Day this past May 2026.

U of G hosted the event and it is momentous that a Psychology major came out on top among so many science majors.

Adiia’s research “focuses on characterizing individuality in drug preference in a model of opioid-stimulant polydrug use in rats to relate to what is seen in humans; highly variable patterns and motivations for polydrug combinations that are highly dependent on individual preferences, and I’ve found this is also true in rats.”

For Pride Month, we’re featuring some of our faculty and students who are making a difference with their research for future Canadian 2SLGBTQ+ people.

Nealob Kakar, is a working toward getting her PhD in Social Practice and Transformational Change and is researching “the ways communities at the intersection of marginalization, specifically racialized 2SLGBTQ+ Survivors, practice care, mutual aid, radical love, and a praxis of indispensability and radical relationality for one another in ways that colonial bodies of policy have not been and will never be able to.”

Her goal is for her research findings to help people reconceptualize policies while considering community-based perspectives that are critical to reimagining a future where collective care is fair and just.

Researchers like Nealob give us hope that the world can be a safe space for everyone to exist and thrive.

The CJPP Research Workshop will conclude with a final session on Inequality, Policy, and Community Systems.

Moderated by Dr. Jessica Bundy, this session includes work from Dr. Marisa DeLuca on Ontario’s transition to homelessness and addiction recovery treatment hubs, Kaitlin Humer on socio-legal networks supporting unhoused communities, Alyssa Khan on the school-to-prison pipeline in Canada, and Dr. Mavis Morton alongside CJPP:MA students on community voices in Ontario’s Community Safety and Well-Being plans.

This session offers a final set of conversations exploring how policy, institutions, and lived experience intersect in shaping justice and community outcomes.

The Arrell Food Institute at the University of Guelph is excited to partner with Talent Innovation Canada to create new opportunities for graduate students and postdoctoral scholars to gain hands-on experience tackling real-world challenges in Canada's agri-food sector.

Through this program, participants will be paired with leading Canadian agri-food companies, where they'll apply their expertise to industry-driven projects while building valuable professional networks, developing critical skills and completing their degrees or research work.

Projects will be supported by funding packages of up to $80,000 for master’s students over an eight-month placement, and up to $160,000 for doctoral students and postdoctoral scholars over 16 months.

Applications for the inaugural 2026–27 cohort are now open until June 26, 2026.
