Meet Annabelle Edward, a second-year student in International Development Studies (Guelph Institute of Development Studies (GIDS) ) at the University of Guelph.
In 2026, Annabelle won the Experience for Life Travel Grant. This award places a value on travel and lived experience in shaping perspective and worldview.
“As someone studying International Development, I have spent much of my education thinking about governance, institutions, and how people experience systems differently depending on where they are,” noted Annabelle in her thank you letter to the donors.
Over the summer, she was able to use the grant to help fund her internship with the Government of Canada’s Summer Leadership Program in Ottawa, Ontario. She will be returning to the U of G this fall.
We loved seeing a day in the life of Annabelle and we hope that you are able to make your ambitious dreams come true at U of G too!

Last month, over 30 University of Guelph researchers were announced as recipients of nearly $3 million from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada (SSHRC).
CSAHS is proud to announce that many of our own researchers were lucky SSHRC grant recipients, but it wasn't luck at all! It was through hard work and dedication that each researcher earned themselves this coveted funding.

“Ontario adjusted its return‑to‑office rules for FIFA World Cup traffic. Why are disability accommodations treated differently?”
That’s what the University of Guelph’s Megan Ingram, a PhD Student studying Social Practice and Transformational Change, and Dr. Carla Rice, a Professor and Canada Research Chair who is Academic Director of the Re•Vision Centre for Art and Social Justice in the CSAHS, are asking in their recent Conversation Canada article.
Ingram and Dr. Rice are arguing that, since 2020, organizations have shown that they can accommodate remote work, they are “willing to adapt to temporary inconveniences such as traffic congestion yet remain reluctant to remove barriers that prevent disabled people from participating fully in the workplace.”
Their research shows that "when disability is involved, flexibility is often treated as something that must be earned, proven and monitored.”

Here at CSAHS, we take food and nutrition seriously, which is why Food Day Canada, which is tomorrow, is so important to our college.

Shop. Cook. Dine. Celebrate. Canadian. That’s Food Day Canada’s mantra this year and we want to add “Garden” to that list. Tomorrow is Food Day, but we're talking about it today too!
One of CSAHS’ very own team members, Alyssa Ahmed, has been a champion of a wellness initiative of planting and maintaining a garden outside of the Dean’s Office at the Macdonald Institute at the University of Guelph.
Do you garden at home? Gardening is a great way to cultivate community and dinner ingredients in your own backyard, or in our case, in our office’s front yard!
