❄️⚡️Meet the Speakers Part 3⚡️❄️
Dr. Ryley Beddoe is an Associate Professor at the Royal Military College, with a research program focused on understanding the overarching impact on geotechnical design driven by climate change in Canada’s Arctic.
Current and recent research include geohazard impacts on infrastructure in the Arctic and along the Hudson Bay Railway, ice road investigations along the Tibbitt to Contwoyto Joint Venture road in the Northwest Territories, ice road reinforcement studies, and climate drive embankment stabilization techniques.
Her research uses both physical modelling techniques as well as numerical model simulations to investigate the influence of climate on these research questions. Ryley is a co-investigator with PermafrostNET, a Research director in the GeoEngineering Centre at Queen’s - RMC, and is an active member in national and international permafrost and geoengineering societies.

✨🌟Meet the Speakers Part 2: the Keynote Speaker of the 26th Annual Symposium!🌟✨
Sheila Watt-Cloutier, Officer of the Order of Canada, is a Nobel Peace Prize nominee in the business of transforming public opinion into public policy. With a focus on solutions, Watt-Cloutier brings the realities of the Arctic―where the Inuit people today face profound challenges to their environment, economy, health and cultural well-being―to light. Because her Inuit culture faces the most extreme challenges of globalization, Watt-Cloutier speaks from firsthand experience, and couples that with her extensive experiences as a global leader.
Widely recognized for her influential work, Watt-Cloutier was the Canadian President of the Inuit Circumpolar Council (ICC) from 1995-2002. From 2002-2006, she served as the International Chair of the ICC, representing the 155,000 Inuit from Canada, Greenland, Alaska, and Russia. In 2016, she gave a TEDx Talk titled “Human Trauma and Climate Trauma as One” and she is also the author of the memoir, The Right to Be Cold: One Woman's Story of Protecting Her Culture, the Arctic and the Whole Planet.

⭐️✨Meet the Speakers Part 1✨⭐️
Dr. Chris Derksen is a research scientist with the Climate Research Division of Environment and Climate Change Canada. His research focuses on the use of satellite data and climate models to understand climate change impacts on the Arctic. Chris' favourite part of his job is getting out on the land for field research: he has participated in more than 25 snow and sea ice measurement campaigns across the Canadian Arctic. Chris was a lead author of the first climate science assessment specific to Canada. To read the 2019 Canada’s Changing Climate Report, please visit:
