Fire Prevention Week occurs this year from October 4-10 and this year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign, “Charge into Fire Safety, Charging is a superpower”, works to educate everyone about using these batteries safely. With fires involving lithium-ion batteries on the rise, this campaign stresses how important it is to BUY, CHARGE, and RECYCLE safely when it comes to lithium-ion batteries.
Here are some morning announcements we’ve been sharing with our young Hurricanes!🌀💛
October 5 - This week is fire prevention week. The theme this year is, “Charge into Fire Safety, Lithium Ion Batteries in Your Home”. Each day this week we will provide you with an important fire safety message from the Guelph Fire Department. Today’s message is:
“Did you know that the batteries in your smartphones, headphones, tablets, hover boards, and e-scooters, and can catch fire if not used properly”? Always charge these devices with the cord and plug that came with the device.
October 6 – Todays fire safety message from the Guelph Fire Department is,
Never charge your smartphone or tablet under your pillow or on a blanket. This can cause the device to catch fire. Always charge them on a hard surface.
October 7 - Todays fire safety message from the Guelph Fire Department is,
Don’t overcharge your smartphone, tablet or headphones. This can cause them to catch fire. Unplug them when they are fully charged.
