Yesterday, a group of women joined me in the forest to learn some wilderness skills. We spent the day building a shelter from natural materials, learning to filter water and worked on our fire making abilities. They intend to now sleep a night in the shelter that they made. It always excited me to see people delving into deeper layers of connection to the natural world. These skills are not only for "survival" purposes. They are each a gateway into understanding your personal connection to the world around you. A gateway into understanding your interconnected relationship with all living beings and the elements of the Earth..

Great time to pick some of those common backyard plants for medicine making! Common Chickweed and Common Plantain are growing abundantly in my yard so I decided to make a salve to treat bug bites, bee stings, cuts and scrapes, burns and skin inflammation. The plants will have to infuse in olive oil for about 3 weeks before i can mix it with bees wax to create the salve. Perfect timing to align with the coming of mosquito season!

Breathing in the abundance of spring!
During this Covid-19 Pandemic it can be easy to get wrapped up in scarcity energy. Its good to take a lesson from what spring has to offer us. Abundance and new beginnings! As you walk in any natural area (if able to) it is easy to see this lesson. The forest floor or your back yard are bursting with nutritious tasty greens. Not only can these spring plants bring cleansing to our bodies but a simple walk among them can do wonders for helping bring lightness to your mood and emotions; a necessary thing during this uncertain time. Though these times may seem "dark" the energy of spring can help us to see the beauty and perhaps even begin to dream of what new healthier beginings may come when this pandemic passes - that is if we are able to listen and learn from it.
Hopefully these pictures will brighten your day, as it is a gift from the spring forest! Many ephemeral plants will disappear before this social isolation is lifted. If you are not able to get out to any natural area, I hope these wonderful spring plants can pass their inspiration through pictures too :)
