Microplastics are becoming increasingly difficult for living organisms to avoid. But what happens once they enter the body?
professor Dr. Ryan Prosser and his research team developed a new imaging technique to locate microplastics inside organisms without dissection.
In a recent study using earthworms, the method revealed that microplastics do not readily cross the gut lining into other tissues, raising important questions about how microplastics may behave in other organisms, and how this approach could be used to assess those risks.

Researchers at are uncovering new possibilities for cancer therapies through the power of plants.🌱🔬
The team led by Dr. Paul Spagnuolo in ’s Department of Food Science has identified a weakness in acute myeloid leukemia cells and developed a compound derived from jojoba, a plant commonly used in skincare products, that may be able to target it.
Spagnuolo’s team is the first to create a compound that blocks the fat-to-fuel process cancer cells depend on for survival, representing a promising direction for future drug development.
