From scrunchies to ribbon skirts!

Gabby Cardinal came in to work with our students, teaching them how to use sewing machines and build their sewing skills!

Students will begin by making hair scrunchies, gaining confidence and learning the basics before eventually moving on to creating ribbon skirts.

Thank you, Gabby, for sharing your time, knowledge, and creativity with our students. We can’t wait to see what they create! 🪡

🧡 Every Child Matters

Today, our Kapawe’no First Nation School students took part in a walk in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

Together, we walked to honour the children who never returned home from residential schools, the Survivors, and the families and communities who continue to carry that history.

Through learning, listening, and remembering, we help our students understand why this day matters—and why every child deserves to feel safe, valued, and proud of who they are.

Our students and staff will wear orange shirts and take part in a walk as we recognize the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Throughout the day, students will also learn, reflect, and take part in activities that honour the children who never returned home, Survivors of residential schools, and their families and communities.

Today, Mr. Cory Cardinal and his wife, Chicquita, taught our students the Men’s and Women’s Traditional Dances.

Our students had a wonderful time learning, participating, and connecting with Cree culture through dance. We are grateful to Cory and Chiquita for sharing their knowledge and teachings with us!
