Our Vision: The Seven Grandfather Teachings
We, at SCDSB strive to walk the path of the Seven Grandfather Teachings.

The Sudbury Catholic District Board strives to improve achievement among First Nation, Métis and Inuit students, and to close the gap between Indigenous and non-Indigenous students in the areas of numeracy and literacy, the retention of students in school, graduation rates and the advancement to post secondary studies. The FNMI Framework provides the strategic policy context.

Today, our schools St. Anne Catholic Elementary School and Bishop Alexander Carter CSS came together for a meaningful wellness event centred around the Moose Hide Campaign, anti-violence, and living well. 🧡

Students had the opportunity to begin the day with a smudge and teachings from Elder Vince Pawis, learning about Indigenous culture, the Seven Grandfather Teachings, and the importance of living in balance and overcoming negativity in our lives.

We were also honoured to welcome Constable Anik Dennie, who spoke with students about respect, relationships, and her experiences working alongside Indigenous communities.

A special miigwetch to John McIntyre for sharing his powerful video Across the Bridge and for speaking openly with our students about his story and connection to the Moose Hide Campaign. His message created important conversations and reflections around truth and reconciliation and the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples. Miigwech to Indigenous Support Workers Ms.Carissa and Page Chartrand for bringing this all together. Sudbury Catholic Schools

Mme Callaway's grade 7/8D students from Marymount Academy had the opportunity to participate in a powerful art learning experience, *March of the Butterflies*, led by Indigenous artist Moses Lunham.

This meaningful session honoured Art for Action in support of MMIWG2S+, encouraging students to reflect, learn, and express their understanding through art.
We are grateful for this opportunity to engage students in learning that deepens awareness, empathy, and respect, while uplifting Indigenous voices and perspectives.
