Students in our SHSM Mining Engineering Program at Lockerby Composite School had the opportunity to visit a unique mining site in Gogama! They learned that the Cote Gold Mine operates on a fleet of 20 completely autonomous mining vehicles and 4 autonomous drills! In addition they learned the challenge of providing services to having 300 people live and work on site continuously from EMS to food services, to recreational facilities!

Last week, our Viking healthcare students practiced taking vitals and applying their knowledge to case studies. They also looked at healthy functioning swine lungs and how smoking can impact the lungs’ ability to fill with air!

Some huge news from Edmonton, Alberta! Last evening at this year’s Canada-Wide Science Fair…
Ariana Demers brought home a national BRONZE MEDAL! Ariana, whose project, Conserved Regeneration Signatures in Human Wound Biology, also won Best in Fair at Sudbury Regional Science Fair! What an incredible feat! Lockerby Composite School is very proud of all of the achievements! Additionally, a big congratulations to all of our Canada-Wide Science Fair (CWSF) participants, Ariana, Farheen, Maria, and Alex! Our Vikings were certainly well represented and have accomplished amazing feats! Amazing job! Congratulations!
