“How was school today?” 🪨

High school students taking a Dual Credit course in our Heavy Equipment Technician program this spring enjoyed some out-of-classroom learning recently at the Sudbury operations of mining company Epiroc. They even had a chance to try Epiroc’s heavy equipment simulator, making it one epic field trip!

With a Dual Credit course, students earn both a high school and college credit at the same time! Click here to learn more about Dual Credit courses at Cambrian: https://ow.ly/GBuf50Z4qwX

Last week, we celebrated an incredible day of connection and career exploration with Vale Base Metals during Vale Career Day on campus. This , we’re continuing that gratitude by recognizing yet another meaningful way Vale continues to support Cambrian students and innovation.

Vale’s recent donation of a scoop tram to our Heavy Equipment Technician program and a battery electric Rokion vehicle to Cambrian R&D is helping provide students and researchers with access to the same technologies shaping the future of mining and skilled trades today.

Partnerships like this go far beyond equipment. They create opportunities for hands-on learning, support applied research, strengthen workforce development, and help ensure students graduate career-ready for industries that are evolving rapidly right here in Northern Ontario.

To the entire team at Vale Base Metals, thank you for continuing to show up for our students, our college, and our community in so many impactful ways. We are incredibly grateful for your ongoing partnership and support.

👏 Congratulations to Ian Ketcheson on competing at the Skills Canada National Competition 2026 as part of Team Ontario!

After earning gold at this year’s Skills Canada - Ontario Competition for Heavy Equipment Service, Ian went on to represent Team/Équipe Sudbury, powered by Manitoulin Transport, at the Skills Canada National Competition, against the country’s top post-secondary skilled trades and technology students.

Ian was very close to medaling and placed 4th just 1.7% behind 3rd place!

A special shout out to the Heavy-Duty faculty, who have been Ian’s coaches and mentors including Rick Smith who was supporting and coaching Ian throughout the competitions.

Ian is also a recipient of the prestigious Schulich Builder Award, among other awards and scholarships he has received from Cambrian and the community!

He continues to demonstrate exceptional leadership, talent, and dedication both in and out of competition!

The entire Cambrian College community is proud to celebrate his incredible accomplishments.

Congratulations, Ian, on representing Cambrian with excellence, passion, and pride! 👏

Partnerships that invest in students, strengthen communities, and help build the future workforce are what is all about.

A huge thank you to Vale Base Metals for partnering with us once again for Vale Career Day at Cambrian College!

This incredible day brought more than 300 Grade 8 students to campus for hands-on activities, conversations, and experiences that helped showcase the many exciting careers connected to modern mining and skilled trades. From engineering and environmental work to technology, heavy equipment, skilled trades, and beyond, students had the chance to see firsthand how broad and innovative the industry truly is.

Partnerships like this make a meaningful impact in so many ways. They help students explore future career pathways, strengthen connections between education and industry, support workforce development and inspire the next generation of talent right here in our community.

Thank you to the entire Vale team, our Cambrian faculty and staff, and everyone who helped make the day such a success. We are proud to continue working together to create opportunities for students and strengthen the future workforce of the North.

Cambrian College was honoured again this year to be one of the presenters and host venue for Sudbury’s 5th annual BEV In Depth Conference!

This year’s theme was Transforming the Critical Minerals Value Chain. More than 250 leaders from such sectors as mining, mineral processing, automotive, defence, clean energy, and government explored such topics as building a critical minerals value chain, Indigenous participation in critical minerals, and Canada’s opportunity in global EV transformation.

At Cambrian, we support this transition through applied research and strong partnerships. Our Centre for Smart Mining works with companies to advance battery electric mining equipment and new technologies that can be used at full scale.

Together, this work helps companies test ideas, reduce risk, and move innovation into real use. It also helps ensure that Canada is not just supplying critical minerals, but leading in how they are used across the full electric vehicle supply chain, and Cambrian is a key part of that process.
