Well, as our semester draws to a close, and preparations for Grad Show kick into gear - (Creative Expo is Thursday April 23 - 6-9pm. We’re in 3190, and the other Creative programs in various locations.) we’re winding down this page, which we’ve not made much use of since the whole FB format went south. So, very soon, (when we can find the actual delete button) this page will disappear. If you’re an alumni interested in getting in touch - you know how to find us - drop us an email or stop by the studio - come see Grad Show!
So, since we’ve just returned from our annual trip to the AGO, this article seems relevant. If they hadn’t rescinded their part in the acquisition of the work, it’s quite possible we would have had the opportunity to see it on our trip. The politics of the matter aside, I find that the author’s description of the nature of Goldin’s work really resonates with me, and with how I see my art process working - for me…. Despite their stature and the large sums their work garners, Goldin’s work is a very personal documentation of arcane networks of lives and paths and images and influences crossed over time. It’s what’s going on every waking minute of an artist’s life, and our challenge remains to capture that lightening in a bottle. Give me some Everest! Rx

Frank Gehry, an award-winning architect whose designs for museums proved widely influential, died on Friday in Santa Monica, California, at 96.
More so than perhaps any other architect of the past half-century, Gehry defined the field of museum architecture. His designs, often composed of sloping, incongruous forms, helped move art institutions in a new direction, showing that they need not only be set in Neoclassical pantheons or hard-edged modernist structures.
The most famous of his museum buildings was for the Guggenheim Bilbao, but he also designed skyscraper in New York, a bank in Berlin, and a concert hall in Los Angeles, and later oversaw museum buildings in locales ranging from Philadelphia to Paris. One of the great projects of his career—another Guggenheim museum, this one in Abu Dhabi—is currently being built.

Many of you may already be aware of the complex situation that the Art Gallery of Sudbury is in vis a vis the loss/sale of the Bell Mansion gallery, and the uncertain disposition of the art collection while they work towards development/construction of a new home. The attached document outlines it fully, and is also linked to a petition to have the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee to step in to assess the situation relative to protecting the interests of community relative to the disposition of the art collection and all the rest…. As artists with a connection to the community, I ask you to consider the information presented here, and whether you wish to sign the document, as well as perhaps pass it along to anyone you know who has an interest in the arts. The petition will be sent along to the aforementioned Office very soon, and the more signatories it has, the better the chance that they will address the matter.

Ya. Looks like we’re going to have a good sized cohort this fall as well. Thanx Gen Z!
Fine-art programmes in New York City are enjoying a record surge in student applications, according to reporting from Hannah Frishberg at the local news outlet Gothamist. Despite staggering tuition costs and the relative precarity of creative vocations, young adults are flocking to the arts across the city and country.
As the ingress of artificial intelligence (AI) has sent shock waves through the working lives of Americans, young people have identified the arts as a human way to combat economic scarcity. The high-school class of 2025 is the largest in US history; while sheer numbers may translate to more applications, experts in the field say that the uptick represents more than just statistics.
"There are ways to make a life that is still rooted in creative work," Dahlia Elsayed, the fine-arts programme director of LaGuardia Community College in Queens, told Gothamist. "They're all still making art but they're also making money. Having a creative life exists beyond a studio practice."
