June 21, 2026, is National Indigenous Peoples Day.

We honour and celebrate the history, heritage, resilience, and diversity of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis peoples.

We’ve put together a collection of resources to support learning and reflection. We’re also highlighting a powerful Cree language learning app from the Kee Tas Kee Now Tribal Council Education Authority, featuring over 900 words and phrases spoken by Cree Elders and rooted in land-based learning.

⚾ Introducing Avondale's Baseball Team!⚾
This year marks Avondale's second year as a Jays Care Affiliate School!

Through this partnership, our school received baseball equipment, resources, and coaching materials to help launch and grow a baseball program for students in Grades 4, 5, and 6.

We are also fortunate that, at the end of each season, our athletes receive Blue Jays shirts, hats, and ribbons to celebrate their hard work and participation.

We are proud of our players for their dedication, teamwork, and sportsmanship throughout the season.

This month’s APPLE Schools Taste Test featured cantaloupe. 🍈
Cantaloupe has a rough beige and green skin with an orange interior. Like most melons, the rind is not eaten, and the seeds are typically scooped out and discarded, although they can be eaten. Cantaloupe has vitamin A, vitamin C and potassium and is a refreshing snack during summer months.🍈

Parents and Guardians of Avondale School students, get involved in your school community by joining us for the Avondale School Council Meeting! All parents are welcome to attend on Wednesday, June 17th from 6:00 to 7:00 PM in the Avondale School Staffroom. This is a great opportunity to discuss school issues, plan events and activities, and support our students. 📌 Reminder
June 5, 2026, is a Professional Learning (PL) Day — no classes will be held for students. PL days support GPPSD staff in their ongoing professional growth and school improvement efforts, helping every student succeed.
Classes resume on Monday, June 8, 2026.

We were fortunate to have been chosen to have the Earth Rangers Performance at our school and Our annual Pancake Breakfast was a great success, and much more!!
June is always a fun and busy month. Below are a few highlights of what’s happening.
June 4th -School Spirit Day - Bring anything but a backpack to school
June 16th - Is our annual Pool Day for Grade's 1 to 6
June 18th - Is our last Munch-a-Lunch until September and it's going to be a "SWEET TREAT" (orders due by June 11th at 3:00 pm)
