Song Room Studios At Song Room Vocal Studios we are dedicated to providing vocal instruction to help people find growth and personal expression.

I (Danica Tyrer) am a wife, mother of two, and have been a voice instructor for four years and counting! Since I was eight years old I have loved singing, and have taken private lessons for over ten years. My vocal training includes Royal Conservatory of Music examinations as well as experience with local and provincial music festival competitions. Through Grande Prairie Regional College I have completed the first two years of my Bachelor of Music degree, having also performed locally at different venues. Music is an essential part of a young person's growth and education, contributing to their overall well-being. It offers a form of personal expression that is invaluable for everyone. This is why I am so passionate about being a vocal teacher and I hope to help people find that growth and personal expression.​

My goal as a voice instructor is to offer energetic, informative, and fun lessons for a wide range of vocal skill-levels.

Today is a day to reflect, learn & honour the children who suffered the atrocities of the Canadian Residential School System & the multi-generational trauma that it caused. We encourage everyone in the Song Room Studios family to take the time to listen & learn.

In 2015, the Truth & Reconciliation Council released the “94 Calls to Action” - actionable policy recommendations to address the legacy of residency schools & advance Canadian reconciliation with Indigenous peoples. (The 94 calls to actionhttps://www2.gov.bc.ca/assets/gov/british-columbians-our-governments/indigenous-people/aboriginal-peoples-documents/calls_to_action_english2.pdf ) It is reported that roughly 15-17 of the calls have been fully implemented, around 45% are in some stage of progress, & 38-40% are stalled or not started. We can do our part by knowing what the calls to action are & keeping our government officials accountable. For the past nine years I have been operating as Tyrer Vocal Studio; a name that was honestly agonized over while sitting in a Starbucks with my partner back in 2015. Tyrer is my married last name, is difficult to pronounce, and didn't carry the impression of singing, music, and songs that I wanted for my studio. I was strapped for time however, and my motto of 'if it's worth doing, it's worth doing "poorly"' kicked in and the name Tyrer Vocal Studio was born. And for the past nine years that name has meant being my own boss, being able to stay home with my babies when they were small, creating a safe space for people to explore music, and truly being a studio that prioritizes everyone's individual vocal journey - tailoring each lesson to suit each student.
Song Room Studios is *still* that space. So, why the name change? I am no longer a one woman show, and I want our studio name to reflect that. Having another voice instructor added to the team, and more than one person running things - it felt like the perfect time to make the change. With growth comes change, and adding instructors to the studio has been a dream of mine for a long time. So, welcome to Song Room Studios - we are excited to continue inspiring vocalists, young and old, to find their voice and confidence!

Since it has been just over a year since our vocal studio family has grown from just Ms. Danica to three of us, we thought it would be a great idea to reintroduced everyone & give a few fun facts! And since our students of the month have to answer a series of questions, we will be answering those same ones as well.

How long have you been doing voice training: I have only had the privilege of doing one group lesson many years ago in 2014, but it has always been a life long dream of mine - hopefully one day soon!

Fun fact about yourself: I impulsively auditioned for Canadian Idol in its last season
What music means to me: I feel like music is able to express our deepest emotions, on all parts of the spectrum - even if we aren't able to verbalize it. I love seeing how it flows through culture, across age, past things like dementia and into all abilities. It is such a beautiful tool. Music is my safe space & my joy 💜
