Roots and Wings is a Modified Montessori center, built on the philosophy of independent, self-directed specific learning with a relaxed and open “learn through play” philosophy, and is the only center operating in Grand Forks, BC in this style. They explore the world around them by experiencing it – touching and watching the things around them. Most important, they involve themselves by experimenting with and actively participating in activities by which they learn. This natural joy and wonder is an integral part of the Montessori approach to learning and encouraging your child’s natural love of learning. The children are encouraged to make independent choices with their work and are used to handling a large variety of materials and ideas. They learn to work solo, with a teacher, as well as in small and class-size groups. They learn to discuss problems with the idea of solving them logically and with concern for their classmates. Early on, older children are asked to help and mentor their younger friends. Older children feel pride in what they can offer young children and young children look up to older children as heroes. The Montessori class operates on a principle of freedom within limits. Each class has a set of ground rules based on respect for each other and for their environment. A child moves freely around the Montessori classroom, working with any equipment and asking the teacher to introduce new material. Children are free to work at their own pace with the materials they have chosen, either alone or with others. The teacher observes each child and determines which new activities and materials to introduce with the aim to encourage active self-directed learning, and at the same time, strike a balance of individual mastery with small group collaboration for the whole class.

Roots and Wings is currently looking to add a staff member to the team. We pride ourselves on providing the best childcare parents can find, and in providing a low stress, enjoyable work environment for everyone involved.

Right now we are seeking someone to help us run the Out Of School Care program. This program generally runs in the afternoons Mon - Thur, and all day Friday.

Please share this posting with anyone you think would be a good fit. Without staff, it is not possible to run the great programs we've established.
