Morgan Art Academy has classes for adults too...

Join us this fall for a 10-session Watercolor Basics class designed for adults who are ready to finally begin their artistic journey. Start your learning with a group of likeminded individuals.

Together, we’ll learn the foundations of painting through guided projects, fundamentals include:
• Water control
• Colour theory
• Composition
• Brushwork & techniques
• How to build a beautiful painting from start to finish

Build your own professional-quality beginner painting so this work follows you outside of the classroom!

No previous experience is required. Just come ready to learn, create, and discover what you’re capable of.

Here is me, Mrs. Wendy, your art teacher, with my art teacher.

When I was 8 years old, my mom signed me up for watercolor lessons with the fabulous Geri Mueller, a well-known mover and shaker in the Grand Falls-Windsor arts community.

Before Facebook existed, my mother probably tore a phone number off a poster hanging on the bulletin board at Max's Convenience.

Every week, three other children and I gathered around Geri's kitchen table with our own professional watercolor paints. She taught us to see the world like artists, to notice light and shadow, to slow down, to be patient, and to take pride in craftsmanship.

Geri welcomed students into her home and taught from her kitchen for years. Together with her many young artists, we exhibited our work at the Arts and Culture Centre, entered competitions, and experienced the excitement of sharing our art with the community.

Those early exhibitions became some of the very first entries on my professional artist CV, entries that are still there today.

It's funny how life comes full circle. The lessons Geri shared with me all those years ago continue to shape how I teach my own students at Morgan Art Academy. I'm so grateful that someone took the time to invest in a little 8-year-old with a paintbrush. ❤️

✏️ Why do our Sketchers learn realism?

Many of our Sketchers (Grades 5-7) come to class loving cartoons, anime, Minecraft, K-pop, cosplay, or creating their own characters.

Sometimes they're surprised when we ask them to draw a realistic still life. But here's the secret: great cartoons are built on real-life skills.

Learning light, shadow, and observation helps young artists create more believable characters, stronger drawings, and artwork with depth.

These pears were one of our first realism studies. The painting on the easel is my example, and the artwork on the wall was created by our talented Sketchers. 🎨 Teen Watercolor Classes (Ages 13-18)

Registration is NOW LIVE, and spaces are filling quickly!

For teens who are ready to take their art to the next level, our Teen Watercolor program is all about mastering one of the world's most beautiful painting mediums.

Did you know that watercolor inspired the breathtaking backgrounds of Studio Ghibli films like Spirited Away and My Neighbor Totoro, along with countless Disney concept paintings? This timeless medium continues to influence animation, illustration, and fine art around the world.

Throughout the fall, students will learn water control, color theory, light and shadow, and observational painting while creating guided pieces like a realistic rose, a cityscape, and a Newfoundland lighthouse.

Once those foundations are in place, the creativity begins. Students will design and paint artwork inspired by their own interests, whether that's fantasy, landscapes, wildlife, anime-inspired illustrations, or meaningful personal scenes.

One of our favorite Squiggles classes was Bring Your Own Stuffy Day! 🧸✨

Our classroom was filled with teddy bears and Squishmallows as each little artist painted a portrait of their favorite stuffy.

But while the paintings dried, the stuffies had a secret tea party... and each one drew a portrait of its little artist! 💛

The surprise and excitement on our Squiggles' faces made it a day we'll never forget. We can't wait to do it again!

Before children learn to paint pictures, they learn that their hands can make an impact.

A dot, a line, a stamp, a swipe, these simple marks are the beginning of creativity, fine motor development, and discovering how materials work.

Even as artists, we continue to explore mark making. I’ve been experimenting with stamping leaves and nature into my own work, discovering new textures and ways to create.

In Squiggles, we celebrate the big messy marks because every mark tells a story. 🖌️

Do you remember the first time your child realized they could make something appear on the page? What was their favorite way to make marks? 💛

There's nothing quite like the excitement of a new art year. Whether your child is joining us for the first time or returning to the studio, we can't wait to create, explore, and grow together this fall.

We are also accepting applications for our Tuition Assistance Program (TAP). Families who qualify can reduce the cost of tuition by participating in our annual Christmas Card Fundraiser in November, helping make art education more accessible while supporting the school.
