Here’s what Cassandra Ireland has to say about the Practical Nursing program at Grand Falls-Windsor
“Choosing the Practical Nursing program at CNA’s GFW Campus was a big decision for me, but I’m so glad I made it. I chose nursing because I wanted a career where I could help people and feel like the work I’m doing matters.
One of my favourite things about the program is the fact there is so much more than just sitting in a classroom. We learn the theory behind nursing, but we also get lots of hands-on practice. We’ve learned skills like taking vital signs, doing assessments, giving medications and injections, wound care, catheter care, and so much more. Getting to practice these skills in the lab and then use them during clinical really helps everything come together.
The instructors are a huge part of what makes this program so great. They are incredibly knowledgeable and always willing to help when we’re struggling or just need something explained in a different way. They take the time to answer our questions, share their own experiences, and make sure we understand what we’re doing and why we’re doing it. You can tell they genuinely care about their students and want us to succeed.
It’s definitely not an easy program, and there have been plenty of stressful days, but it’s also been one of the most rewarding things I’ve done. I’ve learned a lot and gained so much confidence along the way.
I think what I love most is being able to look back and see how much I’ve learned since starting. Things that seemed so intimidating at the beginning are becoming things I can actually do and feel confident about. I’ve also met some really great people along the way, which has made the whole experience even better.
I’m really happy that I chose CNA GFW for Practical Nursing, and I’m excited to see where this career takes me. It’s challenging at times, but knowing that all of this hard work is leading toward a career where I can help people makes it completely worth it. "
