πŸ¦…Way to go Mr. Stewart!

OCEAN HERO OF THE YEAR 2026 - PAUL STEWART

Ocean Week is a time of celebration. As part of that celebration, we traditionally take time during Ocean Week to acknowledge those who go above and beyond when it comes to the conservation, protection, and raising awareness of our oceans and aquatic environments.

Being Newfoundlanders and Labradorians, with deep rooted and intrinsic links to our oceans, there are no shortage of such Ocean Heroes. They are our neighbors, our friends, our coworkers, and sometimes our teachers.

We are thrilled to announce Mr. Paul Stewart as the Newfoundland and Labrador Ocean Hero of the Year 2026.

A teacher at Clarenville High School, Mr. Stewart's nomination was initiated by his students. His nominator wrote "Growing up in the Glovertown area, Mr. Stewart developed a deep passion for the outdoors, particularly for conserving the watershed regions in his community. He went on to study Science at Memorial University, focusing on Chemistry and Biology. After entering the teaching profession, he became actively involved in local conservation efforts, notably with the Freshwater- Alexander Bay Ecosystem Corporation, which works to protect waterways and the migratory fish species that travel between freshwater and the ocean. As a teacher, Mr. Stewart now shares his enthusiasm for environmental stewardship with his students, inspiring them to take part in conservation initiatives of their own."

Mr Stewart’s impact on his students is obvious, and in nurturing his students appreciation and concern for the environment his legacy will be long lasting.

Thank you for all you do Mr. Stewart.
