📚 The 2027 Hawkeye Publishing Manuscript Development Prize is now open!

This year, we’re delighted to offer two categories: the Open Category and our new Own Voices Category, celebrating stories authentically shaped by underrepresented or marginalised lived experience.

One winner will be selected from each category, with the prize continuing Hawkeye’s tradition of discovering exciting new and emerging writers.

The Salt Spring Island Society for Writers and Reader's 𝗣𝗮𝗽𝗲𝗿 𝗖𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘀 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝗸’𝘀 𝗪𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝗶𝗻-𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 program offers Canadian writers a one-week self-directed residency on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia: space to write, rest, read, research, and reconnect with your creative practice while becoming part of a small but engaged literary community.

Residents stay at a private cottage located just ten minutes from Ganges Village and are surrounded by the landscapes that have drawn writers and artists here for generations.

The Canada Council for the Arts | Conseil des arts du Canada's 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗼𝗿 𝗚𝗲𝗻𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗹’𝘀 𝗔𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 celebrate the vibrant arts community in Canada and recognized remarkable careers in the visual and media arts.

The 𝗩𝗶𝘀𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗮 𝗔𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 (𝗢𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗔𝘀𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲) provides funding to assist the general operations of established professional non-profit arts and cultural organizations working in visual arts or media arts. Funding is intended for organizations that sustain an annual artistic and curatorial program encompassing creation, development, presentation, collections, production, distribution, or dissemination activities.
