My 75 second (as allotted) candidate answer to the question asked at the All Candidates Meeting (and I mean ALL candidates! LOL) held by the SCLC.

“What is one action you would take in this position to improve the lives of working people on the Sunshine Coast?”

As a school trustee, I may not have the same authority as a municipal councillor or director, but I believe one of the best ways to support working families on the coast is to strengthen our schools and support our students.

That starts with making every budget decision count, this includes things like supporting before- and after-school care so working families can count on reliable care.

We also need a strategic plan that reflects our shared goals and values. By working with the learning community and listening to families, staff, students, and other stakeholders, we can make sure decisions reflect the people we serve.

Listening to student voice. Our goal is to help students become valued members of our community, whether they continue to post-secondary, pursue a trade, or enter the workforce. Students experience our schools every day, so their voices should help shape the decisions we make. They will one day be those working families.
Responsible budgeting, a strong strategic plan, and listening to students and families are key to supporting our community.

🧡 On September 30, flags at district sites will be flown at half-mast in recognition of the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

This day is an opportunity to remember the children who never returned home from residential schools, honour Survivors, and acknowledge the ongoing impacts on Indigenous families and communities. We encourage our community to take time to learn, reflect, and participate in meaningful acts of reconciliation.

🕊️ In recognition of Police and Peace Officers’ National Memorial Day on Sunday, September 27th, district flags will be lowered to half-mast at the end of the day on Friday, September 25, and returned to full mast on Monday morning, September 28.

We honour and remember the police officers and peace officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty and recognize their service and sacrifice.
