Today at HHCS, our students took time to learn about Truth and Reconciliation and remember the Indigenous children and families impacted by residential schools.

We began with a simple question: What makes someone valuable?

Students were reminded that every person is created in the image of God. Our value doesn’t come from our grades, talents, popularity, or what others think of us. Our value comes from God.

We talked honestly about the brokenness in our world and why remembering the experiences of Indigenous children matters. We also reflected on the hope we have in Jesus, who calls us toward truth, compassion, justice, forgiveness, and hope.

Our students finished by considering: If every person bears God’s image, how should that change the way I treat others?

They put their reflections onto orange shirts as a reminder to show kindness, dignity, respect, and love to others.

Today, we remember. We listen. We learn.
