Come in! Come in to a warm smile, hug and an opportunity to show you recognize your own name. While the parents are signing into the log sheet the children know they have a job to do too. The small pieces of chalk are wonderful for strengthening finger grasp. Depending on their abilities, they can scribble, trace the ovals, squares or letters. We all just love this activity.

Love these markers by Crayola. The tips are quite short to discourage taste testers, the triangular shape helps to promote a proper printing grip and they do not roll off the table.

Children begin to explore the form of writing by scribbling. Then, their controlled scribbling gradually develops into recognizable objects that they name, while at the same time, the scribbling acquires the characteristics of print...linearity, horizontal orientation, and the arrangement of letter-like forms.

March Break Happenings
One of the best things about Home Childcare is that we can often take advantage of community happenings to enhance the quality of care we offer. After all, the town we live in is part of our children’s world. How better to help them feel comfortable with their world than by taking the time to go out to see, feel and explore different parts of their town.
This week the Georgetown Marketplace offered several different events to entertain school aged children during the March Break. After careful consideration, I chose two shows for me and my young friends to enjoy. The Bubble Show and the Puppet Tamer.
Between the amazing shows, the light effects, the children and adults all around – even the youngest of my children was kept engrossed.

Picnic at the Marketplace Food Court
Since both shows were scheduled to take place at noon, I decided to bring a picnic lunch for us to enjoy afterwards. What was my favorite part of the outing? It was watching eight or more retired seniors’ smile, wave and call bye in response to a little voice calling “bye bye” as we left to head back for quiet time. (We also picked up some additional delicious food for the grown-up's afternoon snack!)

Time to share
When you discover a food item that is nutritional, reasonably priced, easy to make and (almost) all the children love to eat….well…. I have to share. I have served the PC Blue Menu pasta warm and cold. Add just a bit of butter and sprinkle with parmesan cheese.

Shout Out: To the Halton Child Care Providers Association (HCCPA).
This wonderful association continuously provides me with education and inspiration through workshops and newsletters. The board members and other providers are the best at offering support and wonderful creative ideas through a closed face book group and regular social get-togethers. It was a nutritional workshop conducted at the Superstore in Oakville, were I first learned about the PC Blue Menu pasta and many other wonderfully healthy and yummy foods. (Thank you SS Nutritionist and Dietitian Karolina Otto).

Hands on Bubbles
When we arrived home, I decided that the children needed a bit more hands on exposure to bubbles.
