Eastern Quebec Literacy Council

Eastern Quebec Literacy Council At the EQLC, we work to lead English and Indigenous people and families to achieve literacy goals.

With a focus on family literacy and community improvement, we work hand in hand with local partners and schools in our region, as well as the other Literacy Councils across Quebec, federal, and provincial partners. Our most popular programs include tutoring, script service, and the many activities we plan throughout the school year.

📚✨ Our little Book Cruncher outside the office just got a spooky October refresh — creepy, cozy, and kid-friendly reads included.

We had way too much fun filming this video… bloopers at the end prove it. Swing by to grab a spooky read or leave one for someone else! 🎃

✨ Bookshelf roll call! ✨
We want to see what kind of shelf magic lives in your home — big, small, chaotic, curated, rainbow‑bright, or delightfully mismatched.

So tell us: Which bookshelf style are YOU?
(Bonus points if you share a photo — we’d love to see your shelf in the wild! 📸)

👇

🏙️ The High‑Rise — Everything stacked by height. Symmetry = serenity.
🌈 The Rainbow Reader — Sorted by colour — aesthetics first, plot second. Your shelf is basically wall art.
📇 The Librarian — Alphabetical order, always. Dewey Decimal energy.
🕯️ The Aesthetic Arranger — Books + decor living in perfect harmony. You read... but you also have a vibe to maintain.
🌪️ The Beautiful Mess — No system, no shame. You know exactly where everything is (even if no one else does).
📚 The Genre Genius — Mystery with mystery, fantasy with fantasy — a mini bookstore at home.

Happy National Seniors Day to all the incredible seniors in our lives 💛

Today we celebrate the older adults who inspire us every day — parents, grandparents, neighbours, coworkers, mentors, and friends. Their wisdom, kindness, and generosity have helped shape our families, our communities, and our world.

Tag a senior who holds a special place in your heart and tell us a little about them! ✨

September 30 is National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.
Today, we honour Survivors and commit to learning with care. 🧡

One meaningful way to engage is by reading Indigenous voices.
Their stories— whether about family, culture, resilience, or self‑discovery — help us listen deeply and support reconciliation through literacy. 📚

Toronto Public Library has put together a wonderful list of must‑read titles written by Indigenous authors, writers, illustrators, and Knowledge Carriers for all ages. If you’re looking to bring more Indigenous voices into your reading life, this list is a great place to start.

Let us know which titles you’re drawn to or which ones you hope to read next. 🧡
