🧡 All of Gander Elementary students participated in a school wide Google Meet yesterday to commemorate the National Day for Truth and Reconciliation. Our School Counsellor & Reading Specialist presented information including Indigenous and Canadian history, photographs, artwork and Phyllis Webstad’s story. The insight and participation of our students was inspiring!

Students’ commitment to honour those who survived residential schools and those who did not return was clear in their comments such as “be kind to all”, “never forget”, “wear orange” and “learn and respect “.

We continue on our learning journey together as a school community every day 🧡

Tomorrow, September 29 is orange shirt day at GE. Students and staff are invited to wear orange in honour of Truth and Reconciliation Day. Thank you to the Kikmanaq Indigenous Cultural Rival Association for setting up the teepee on our school grounds. An opportunity for students to learn and have conversations about indigenous culture, history and reconciliation. Let’s listen, learn and grow together because every child matters.
