Thank you to everyone who joined our Champions Hockey prep camps ahead of the season and good luck to everyone throughout the Winter months!

Congratulations to those who made the teams they were working toward. If tryouts didn’t go as you hoped, remember that one selection doesn’t define you as a player. There’s still plenty of opportunity to grow and have a great season.

Wherever you’ve landed, work your hardest, be open to feedback and be a good teammate. Your effort and how you treat others matter on every team.

Good luck this season!

Skating affects every part of a player’s game. Getting to a loose puck, creating space, closing a gap and staying balanced in a battle all depend on how well a player moves on the ice.

Team practices play an essential role in development, with coaches balancing individual skills, team systems and game preparation. With so much to cover, there isn’t always time for the detailed instruction and repetition that skating technique deserves.

Our Technical Skating clinics complement that work by giving players dedicated time to focus on their stride, edges, balance, acceleration and changes of direction. Working through these details helps players move more efficiently and use their skating more confidently in game situations.

As the season gets underway, making time for skating development can help players get more out of everything else they’re learning.

October 18, November 1 and November 15 at Grant Harvey
U9/U11: 5–6 p.m.
U13/U15: 6:15–7:15 p.m.

Now that most players have settled onto their teams, it’s a good time to make room for individual development alongside team practices and games.

Champions Hockey’s semi-private sessions give players focused time to work on skills that need extra attention. Small-group instruction allows for individual feedback, plenty of repetitions and time to practise adjustments before taking them into a game.

Team practices cover a lot of ground, from systems to preparing for the next opponent. These sessions complement that work by giving players dedicated time to focus on their own development and build confidence in their skills.

All sessions take place on Mondays at York Arena from 6:30–7:30 a.m.

U9/U11
October 19 • November 2 • November 16 • November 30 • December 14

U13/U15
October 26 • November 9 • November 23 • December 7 • December 21

With sessions every other week for each age group, players have time between lessons to apply what they’re learning in their team practices and games.

A little competition can bring a lot out of a player.

Our Battle & Compete Series gives players a chance to work on puck battles, quick decisions and playing with confidence under pressure. It’s a great way to add some focused development alongside the work they’re doing with their team.

Strong skating is the foundation of every part of the game.

Our fall Technical Power Skating sessions give U9/U11 and U13/U15 players an opportunity to complement their team practices with focused work on acceleration, explosiveness, mobility, edge control, balance and changing direction.

Continue building your skating throughout the season while putting those improvements to work with your team!
