We are deeply grateful to Susan Bishop and The Ralph and Janet Shears Family Foundation for their generous support of our recovery program. Their partnership directly enables us to walk alongside community members as they heal, rebuild, and step into new possibilities with safety, dignity, and care

Why Do We Leave When He’s Breathing Again? 07/05/2026

At 12 Neighbours, we often say that housing is just the beginning. Recovery, personal development, purpose, and belonging are what help people build a full life.

Marcel shared a personal reflection on overdose, emergency response, and the stronger offer our communities need to build after the breathing returns.

Emergency response saves lives. It should.

But if we want to change our communities, we also have to invest in a stronger and more comprehensive offer: safe housing, recovery, supportive relationships, personal development, purpose and meaningful opportunity.

We hope this reflection contributes to a thoughtful conversation about how we can build communities that help people not only survive—but truly live.

Great work starts with great people. Meet five of the leaders helping turn housing into hope.

Good things are happening at 12 Neighbours. Our communities are growing, more people are finding stable housing, and new opportunities are opening through recovery, personal development, employment and entrepreneurship.

But it takes more than a program alone. It happens because caring and capable people show up every day, build relationships, solve problems and walk alongside others.

In this update, meet Josh, Colleen, David, Prashamsa and Mindy as they share what has been happening in their areas.

This season, our permanent and transitional housing sites welcomed more neighbours into stable homes, including a new site that opened its doors in Saint John.

Our recovery team met people with support exactly when and where it was needed. No one who asked for help this month was turned away.

And through Neighbourly Ventures, more community members stepped into employment and entrepreneurship than ever before, some graduating into full-time roles, others building something entirely their own. These paths are open to anyone ready to try, not just those living within our programs.

Because of you, people are given the space to try, to grow, and to belong ❤️
