ISAO Immigration Question of the Month!

Once a month from May to September, on our social media platforms and SharePoint site, we'll be posting out most frequently asked question (and answer):

Question for May 2026: If I take a part-time course load in summer (1-2 courses), will it affect my post-graduation work permit and how many hours can I work?

Answer: If you were enrolled full-time this term and expect to be so in the Fall, and you are in an undergraduate program or graduate course-based program, then the summer is a scheduled break for you. That means you can do any of the following:

• Enroll in 0 classes

• Enroll part-time (1-2 classes)

• Enroll full-time (3+ classes)

• Work part-time

• Work full-time

• Work full or part-time while taking any number of classes

You can choose any of these options without affecting your post-graduation work permit, as scheduled break enrollment is not considered "part-time" or "full-time" in the eyes of IRCC.* During the scheduled break (from the end of exams in April to the beginning of classes in September), you have the freedom to work or study at your discretion.

*This said, you may choose to write a letter of explanation to accompany your transcript at the time of your post-graduation work permit application, especially if you feel your transcript is unclear.

Letter of Completion and Final Transcripts (PGWP application)

For those international students asking for some clarity on requesting the two documents UNB must provide for your PGWP application, both the Letter of Completion and Final Transcripts may be ordered through your MyUNB portal.

The Letter of Completion must be ordered as a special customized letter available after clicking the "Letter of Enrollment" link on that page, while the final transcript may be ordered through the "Order an Official Transcript" link (same page - both can be found under the heading "Academics").

It is highly recommended to provide IRCC with the OFFICIAL final transcripts for the PGWP application, rather than the free-to-download unofficial transcripts.
