Adult Literacy Fredericton

Adult Literacy Fredericton Free one-on-one tutoring
helping adults improve their literacy skills. A non-profit serving the Greater Fredericton region since 1978.

Since 1978 Adult Literacy Fredericton has been teaching adult learners to read and write. Over 1,500 people have been trained as volunteer tutors and more than 2,000 students have received help. Our trained tutors work with people to improve their basic and functional skills in reading, writing, speaking, listening, numeracy and other life skills. Our programs are adapted to the goals of the student. Using methods developed by literacy pioneer, Dr. Frank Laubach, our national charitable organization trains volunteer tutors to work one-on-one with adult students. Adult Literacy Fredericton, Inc.

We’re excited to officially welcome Helen Hiltz as our new Program Manager!

Helen brings years of experience as a librarian, with a strong background in educational programming, volunteer support, and community partnerships. She’s passionate about advancing adult literacy in our community and looks forward to connecting with our tutors and learners.

Beginning next week, Helen’s office hours will be Monday through Thursday, 12–5 pm, or by appointment.

We’ve also moved to a new office—now located near the top of the stairs (no change to the Tutoring Room location). Be sure to stop by and say hello!

You could be a volunteer tutor - yes you! We provide training and support - you provide your time as a volunteer. In just a few hours a month you could help an adult learner improve their reading and writing skills.
