About Shorelines:
This fall Theatre UNB is set to stage Shorelines, an environmental thriller written by award-winning Canadian playwright Mishka Lavigne. This poetic play follows four occupants of a small town surrounded by levees barely holding the rising global shorelines. As twins Alix and Evan await evacuation orders, they bide their time salvaging what they can and taking care of their Gran, a retired journalist living with dementia whose memories of a different time come back to haunt her. Government official Portia is also haunted by memories of a past life that she has spent years hiding from, and as she wanders back through familiar places, her present and past collide. When everyone’s survival is suddenly threatened, the twins race to their grandmother, and secrets and forgotten memories come out just before the final flood.
Playwright Mishka Lavigne is a two-time winner of the Governor General’s Award for French Language drama. Shorelines was short-listed for the Governor General’s Award for English language, making Lavigne the first person nominated for both the French and English versions of the award.
Shorelines is directed by Jorja Taylor with technical direction and design done by Tye Murphy. Performances will take place Oct 22nd -Oct 24th at 7:30 nightly at Memorial Hall, UNB.
