Since the beginning of Summer, we have been play testing our new game “Paradoxides.” This means we have people come in to play the game and give us their feedback, or, the design team plays the game. While the games mechanics are mostly finalized, playtests are always valuable as we finalize the graphic design of the board and cards. Pictured here are some versions of the board over the past couple of months. Some are being playtested, and some are being critiqued for graphic design updates. Hit us up if you’re interested in playtesting!

It’s Paradoxides’ Birthday! 🥳🥳

After about six months of trying out different game ideas and mechanics, it was on July 22, 2025 that we playtested what came to be called “Prototype 5”. This is the one that stuck. The current prototype of Paradoxides, numbered 5.5, has seen adjustments and additions along the way, but the core mechanics were locked in one year ago today. Happy Birthday Prototype 5!

Back in May, we submitted Paradoxides to the 2026 Canadian Game Design Award competition. This is an annual event for unpublished prototypes by Canadian board game designers. We just learned that we were chosen as one of the five finalists! Thank you to the judges for this incredible honour. The winner will be announced at FallCon, Alberta’s largest gaming convention, on August 22 in Calgary.

We’re making a new board game! Over the past couple of years we’ve been developing our newest game about the historical practice of Atlantic Canadian geology and palaeontology: “Paradoxides - Fossil Hunting in Eastern Canada (1860-1900)” As we will continue to make updates here on Instagram, the best place to keep up to date with this project is in our Facebook group where we post exclusive game-related updates, and where you can share your opinions before the game is released.

That’s a wrap on the 2026 Canadian Games Studies Association Conference! Katie M, Katie R, and Dr. Scott Preston ran demos of our new game Paradoxides and gave a presentation about our process in creating it: “But Where are the Dinosaurs? - Balancing Facts and Fun While Designing a Geoscience Board Game.” This was an exciting step for Paradoxides, and brings us even closer to the final product.

Last Saturday, Resolve attended Impossible Realities: March to Oblivian 2026 gaming and cosplay convention in Saint John. We ran demos of Project AUDE, sold some copies, and made some new friends. Thanks to everyone who dropped by our table. See you again in September!

On Saturday, February 21st, Resolve hosted the first ever Project AUDE tournament! Players representing different faculties/residence houses/clubs came out and had a blast competing against each other. Congratulations to our winner, Rosabella! (Representing Lady Beaverbrook Residence)
