Description:

Volunteer training, recruitment & oversight:
Receive training from the supervisor and Aramark
Support recruitment and onboarding of volunteers
Ensure all volunteers complete food safety training, understand food handling protocols, and feel confident in their roles
Food recovery coordination & logistics:
Manage the catering calendar
Schedule and supervise volunteers to recover surplus food from catered events, including substitutions, and last-minute changes
Liaise with Aramark staff
Oversee safe packaging, labelling, freezing, and storage of recovered food in adherence with food safety standards and university policies
Replenish food packaging and data recording supplies as needed
Be present for initial shifts of new volunteers
Free breakfast program coordination:
Ensure daily volunteer coverage (Monday–Friday, 9–10 a.m.) for setup, cleanliness, food availability, and responsible use of the space
Coordinate the use of recovered baked goods for the breakfast program and the BMH pantry freezer
Communication & responsiveness:
Maintain regular communication with the supervisor, including weekly meetings
Respond promptly to volunteer and supervisor inquiries throughout the workday
Tracking, reporting & continuous improvement:
Maintain accurate records of food recovered and distributed
Train volunteers in record-keeping
Provide regular updates and feedback to the supervisor
Identify challenges and recommend improvements as the program
