Today is Ada Lovelace Day, a celebration of the 19th-century mathematician often called the world’s first computer programmer. Ada saw possibilities no one else had articulated — envisioning machines that could work with symbols, generate art and music, and move far beyond simple calculation. Her notes revealed a mind decades ahead of its time, making her one of history’s most influential STEM pioneers.

Wednesday, October 28: Avoiding Plagiarism Using MLA: Unsure how to cite your sources? Worried about accidentally plagiarizing? Learn the basics of MLA citations, including how to create a Works Cited page, use in-text citations, and properly quote and paraphrase your sources.

We are saddened by the passing of Margaret Hamilton, a Computer History Museum Fellow and one of the most influential figures in the history of computing.

As leader of the software team for NASA's Apollo program, Hamilton helped develop the onboard flight software that carried humans to the Moon. Her pioneering work not only contributed to one of humanity's greatest achievements, but also helped establish software engineering as a respected discipline in its own right.

Throughout her career, she championed reliability, rigorous systems thinking, and innovation, leaving a legacy that continues to shape computing today. We are honored to have recognized her as a CHM Fellow and grateful for the inspiration she provided to generations of engineers, computer scientists, and explorers.

Our thoughts are with her family, friends, colleagues, and all those whose lives and careers were touched by her extraordinary work. Her legacy will endure wherever software helps people reach beyond what once seemed impossible.
