Reuben Peter-Paul (BCS’05, MCS’08) didn’t arrive at UNB with a clear destination in mind. “I just knew I wanted to go to university. I didn’t really know what I wanted to do.”

That uncertainty will sound familiar to generations of UNB alumni. What made his experience different wasn’t certainty, but what met him along the way were conversations that nudged him and moments when life arrived all at once and demanded clarity. Looking back on his career, including his current work building software for a startup in the clean energy space, Reuben sees UNB not as a straight line, but as a place where judgment was slowly built.

The UNB Grad Class Facebook groups have been created for those students planning to graduate from UNB in spring and fall 2026. What a fun and successful 2 weeks of 'Adventures in Computing' camps we had this summer! We extend a big thank you to all the campers (and parents), counsellors, and volunteers who made our camp a success! We hope our campers had fun and learned lots about the problem-solving and the creativity that make computer science so interesting.

Thank you to Josh Bacon, Nick Boucher, Reilly Green, Amanda Samarita, María Victoria Millan, Wyatt MacKay-Dawson, and Bella Wedge for your leadership in making our camps so special for the middle school students who participated! And a shout-out to our Summer Camp Director, Professor Connor Wilson for his tireless commitment to CS outreach.

in in 1981, IBM introduced its first personal computer, the IBM 5150.

Built by a team in Boca Raton, Florida, the IBM PC featured an Intel 8088 processor, 16 KB of RAM, and an open architecture that allowed users to add hardware and software from other companies. IBM’s decision to use off-the-shelf components and third-party software helped bring personal computing into the mainstream.

The IBM PC would go on to become a defining standard in personal computing, influencing the development of the PC industry for decades to come.
