INFORMATION SESSION NEXT WEEK!!!

Project AIR also known as Ancestral Indigenous Roots is an Indigenous organization that focuses on providing free access to knowledge, culture, and community. It does this by creating a space for Indigenous people to connect to their culture and communities. The organization also allows allies to learn about Indigenous culture and history so they can build empathy and understand how to be a good ally.

Join the founder of Project AIR (Brittany Lynn Gray) where she will explain how the University Chapter programming works for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students at STU this fall! Students are encouraged to come ask questions and learn more about how they can get involved!

Project AIR is offering students unique journals to record their experiences as they interact with the project. These journals have been handmade by Luanna Dugas, an Acadian-Métis artist whose art promotes environmental sustainability through her use of recycled materials. Each journal is one of a kind and is smudged by Luanna!

Students that enrol in the Moddle course can sign up to get their free journal & request to either pick it up at the Wabanaki Centre or get it mailed out!

Luanna Dugas is an Acadian-Métis artist originally from la Baie Sainte-Marie in Nova Scotia. She is a lifelong learner, always wanting to share her passion with others. Dedicated to many humanitarian causes, Luanna has served in leadership roles through local and international crisis. Her art speaks to the individuality of people, all while respecting and promoting environmental sustainability through recycling. Luanna transforms items from old license plates, books, seashells, crayons, old shirts... into coat hooks, journals, ornaments, canvas art and more! Through her work and creative process, she encourages others to think outside the box. Her works have been exposed at different community centers and are sold at multiple locations in New Brunswick and Nova Scotia.

Hello and welcome to the ceremony portion of Project AIR. Under this section, we will have educational videos offered to students on ceremonial teachings, taught by elders and knowledge keepers from various communities. Once covid allows, our goal is to have in-person ceremonies for students to attend. Until then, we will have a list of resources that students can access on this page. Kwe’ (Hello) everyone! My name is Brittany, I am Mi’kamq from Pabineau First Nations, and I am the founder of Project AIR – also known as Ancestral Indigenous Roots.

My intention for this program is to connect Indigenous peoples to their ancestorial roots, by utilizing Indigenous knowledge, culture, and community! I’m making this possible by connecting to various Indigenous Elders & Knowledge keepers across Canada and allowing them to share their knowledge through our platform!

Currently Project AIR is being piloted at St. Thomas University for Indigenous students through their Moodle platform.

Keeping that in mind this program will be encompassing different variations of Indigenous cultures. Project AIR will be enriched will all Indigenous backgrounds, therefore there will be different expressions in regard to beliefs, knowledge, ceremonies, and all sorts of different practices. This will give us wonderful experience to explore the uniqueness that each Indigenous person will be bringing to the program, and that includes you!

I would like to take the time to acknowledge that the land on which this program has been developed on is on the traditional unceded territory of Wolastoqiyik (People of the Beautiful and Bountiful River Wolastoq). This territory is covered by the Treaties of Peace and Friendship which the Wolastoqiyik (Maliseet), Mi'kmaq, and Passamaquoddy peoples first signed with the British Crown in 1725. The treaties did not deal with surrender of lands and resources but in fact recognized Wolastoqey (Maliseet), Mi'kmaq, and Passamaquoddy title and established the rules for what was to be an ongoing relationship between nations.

I would also like to acknowledge that air acts as a messenger and the whole purpose of this program is to pass down messages and the knowledge that those before us had learned. In saying this, the knowledge that has been infused into this program comes from Elders and knowledge keepers from all across turtle island and that this program would not be alive with out each Indigenous person.
