If you know someone over 65 who takes a prescribed medication for sleep and lives in New Brunswick, they may be eligible for the YAWNS NB study. Each study participant is interviewed over the phone when enrolled and then a second time 6 months later. Participants are sent an information package by mail about how to get a good night's sleep, with instructions on how to become less reliant on medications while your sleep improves.
We are doing the YAWNS NB study in New Brunswick for 2 reasons: 1) As your age goes up so do the risks of taking medications for sleep (e.g., memory problems, falls, injuries, mental impairment, dependence, drug interactions), and 2) People in NB use medications for sleep at twice the rate as the rest of Canada.

The risks of sleep medications increase as we get older. Now is a great time to learn how to sleep without them. If you know someone who has passed their 65th birthday, takes a prescribed medication to help with sleep, and lives in New Brunswick, they may be interested in participating in the YAWNS NB study. Each participant receives information by mail about how to get a good night's sleep as well as information about the medications used forr sleep. The study involves only two telephone interviews; one shortly after enrolling and the other 6 months later. Contact us today to learn more.
