Excited to announce 2022 Go Code Girl's Keynote Speaker #1, Megan Doherty 🌈

Megan Doherty is a Security Technical Specialist with Microsoft where she leads customer engagements focused on empowering organizations to securely achieve more leveraging the Microsoft security solution portfolio. Her expertise and focus lies in empowering organizations to securely achieve more, through technical and operational excellence in the fields of knowledge around extended detection and response and threat intelligence.

Megan earned her BScSwE in Software Engineering from the University of New Brunswick where she studied and worked under the New Brunswick Innovation Research chair in Cyber Security around education initiatives in the province.

An accomplished artist and storyteller, Megan is deeply committed to empowering others and improving diversity and inclusion in the cybersecurity industry. She is a core mentor for women amongst different Canadian universities, and co-leader of Microsoft Canada’s national DigiGirlz program focused on encouraging digital literacy among young girls and mentor to women to pursue careers in computer science and engineering among many Canadian Universities.

UNB Go CODE Girl will be happening virtually on March 26, 2022!

Go Code Girl offers girls, including all who identify as female, in grades 7-12 the chance to discover the digital skills to propel them into the future through a series of fun hands-on activities and presentations.

This event is designed to introduce you to the wide range of career possibilities available in the rapidly-growing fields of technology, computing and software engineering.

Female undergraduate students, computer scientists and professors take part in the day to share their stories of passion, inspiration, and success.

Date: Saturday, March 26, 2022
Time: 9:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.

A little about her:
“I am in second year Electrical Engineering at the University of New Brunswick Fredericton hoping to go into the biomedical field to design prosthetics. I was lucky enough to discover my passion and drive for helping motivate others early on. I am excited to share my experiences and dreams with other young women, hoping to inspire them to do good in the world by joining the STEM field. I am looking forward to speaking to young girls at Go Code Girl and motivate them to become role models.”

Introducing Leah! She will be speaking at our conference 🙌🏼

Some information about Leah:

Leah Bidlake is an Instructor in the Faculty of Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick. She completed her Bachelor of Computer Science (Cooperative Education Program), Bachelor of Education, and Master of Computer Science at the University of New Brunswick and is currently pursuing her PhD in Computer Science. Her research interest is in the psychology of programming.

Her talk:
“Computer science is not just about computers. Computer science is about being creative, designing solutions, and helping people. In computer science you can study how people interact with computers, how computers learn, how to keep information secure, how to design and build innovative computer applications, and much more!”

First we have Katie:

Katie Skead is the Outreach and Communications Coordinator with the Faculty of Engineering at UNB. After completing both her undergraduate and master’s degrees in Civil Engineering at UNB, Katie sought experience internationally working with an engineering consulting firm in New Zealand. Her love of the community atmosphere at UNB brought her back to the university. Now through a variety of programs delivered on and off campus, Katie strives to provide meaningful experiences for all ages of engineers and scientists-to-be, as well as connect fellow alumni with each other, the school, and our future generations.
