Today we celebrate International Women’s Day and to celebrate the students shared what they liked about the women in our school. We are thankful for them and the big roles they play at LKES. We received a grant to help us celebrate girls and women in our school, we will share details about our plan when we get back from spring break. ”Here’s to strong women. May we know them. May we be them. May we raise them.”

It was a great day of celebrating two great group of kids as they have reached an amazing milestone. Days like today would not be possible without the students who show up and work hard every day! The teachers and support staff who make learning so fun! The parents and guardians for giving love and guidance to these wonderful children and most importantly bring them to school!
Each group will go off and do great things - whether it is in the green wing or in the high school, we are about to see some great stuff happen!
Thank you to Mr. Leach, Ms. Jose, Ms. Val, Hayley, Tommy, Alan, Richard, Tiffany and Ms. Rebecca who worked hard to pull off a wonderful day. It turned out to be beautiful weather for a beautiful day.

Happening this weekend! Mrs Whelly will be running a little soccer camp Friday during gym classes and if you ant your child to play comment or send Jackie Whelly a message.

Today as a school we took the time to feed the fire to pay tribute to Orange Shirt Day. Thank you to Ms Allen who came to host the fire feeding ceremony and the grade 3/4 class who collected moss, berries and bark with the guidance from Jessie for a proper offering.

Throughout the week classes read stories written from Indigenous authors to discuss the importance of Orange Shirt Day and the meaning behind “Every Child Matters.” As a reminder to be posted for a few weeks the entire school worked towards creating a Remembrance Garden and attempted to make a garden with 215 flowers to represent the first 215 souls uncovered this spring. We hope our families are able to spend the day tomorrow as a day of reflection and time spent filled with love. All of us at LKES know Every Child Matters and will not keep the importance of September 30th just for one day but for the whole year.

LKES will be hosting Orange Shirt Day on Wednesday September 29th due to the stat holiday on Thursday September 30th. We are spending this week to bring awareness to the importance of why we will not be having school on Thursday and what the Orange Shirt symbolizes.

We are wanting to give respect and honour the day as it deserves so as a result we will be postponing the Terry Fox National School Run scheduled for September 29th to Friday October 1st.

Tomorrow is a regular school day and the schools will be open as usual.
I understand that we are all experiencing a lot of anxiety and uncertainty because we are in the midst of the pandemic. However, for future reference, please be aware that as per our school policies, procedures and practices, any school closures will be posted on Facebook and announced on CBC radio.
Please watch the school pages as well as the Fort Simpson Bulletin page and/ or listen to CBC radio for any announcements of school closures.
If there are no announcements on these pages or on the radio, then the schools will be open as scheduled.

In an effort to support and recognize World
Su***de Prevention Day as well support LKFN and other wellness agencies as they bring awareness, we would like to have a Pink Shirt Day tomorrow. We encourage our students to wear anything pink as we want to recognize the importance of being kind to each other and ourselves and the benefits of caring for each other. This ties into our Dene Law of the Month “Young Boys and Girls Should Behave Respectfully”. Keep in mind to be kind.

Today our school did our opening fire feeding ceremony. Ms Gargan and Jessie did a wonderful job explaining the importance of feeding the fire and doing an opening prayer.

This school year we will be focusing on a new Dene Law per month and our weekly Dene Law stars will be picked based on the Law of the Month. This month we are focusing on “Young Boys and Girls Should Behave Respectfully”. Each classroom teacher alongside Ms Gargan and all support staff will foster and take moments to teach the students of LKES the importance of this law and how we can honour this law daily. We encourage our school family to have conversations at home to discuss the importance of the laws in our home lives as well.
