📡 STARLINK RENEWAL UPDATE

Muscowpetung Chief and Council are pleased to announce that all on-reserve Starlink units have been renewed for another 12 months. All units should be active within the next 48 hours.

If you experience any difficulties, please unplug your Starlink unit, wait a few moments, and plug it back in to reboot the system.

Members who require a replacement Starlink unit are asked to contact Chelle Cappo at [email protected] to schedule a maintenance visit.

Chief and Council remain committed to eliminating the digital divide. Providing free, reliable internet to our on-reserve families is no longer a luxury - it is a necessity in today’s society.

Broadband internet helps our members:

💳 Access online banking
🩺 Schedule medical appointments
🎓 Attend online courses and training
📚 Access tutoring and educational resources
💼 Build businesses and participate in online commerce
💙 Connect with addictions treatment and wellness programming
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Stay connected with family, services and opportunities

Reliable internet improves access, creates opportunities and strengthens the overall quality of life for our members.

We thank everyone for their patience as all units are fully reactivated.

🪶 Kihci-mīkwēc From Chief Melissa Tavita and Council 🪶

On behalf of Chief Melissa Tavita and Council, we extend our deepest and most heartfelt thank you to everyone who joined us for the 2nd Annual Muscowpetung Saulteaux Nation Traditional Pow Wow.

To our Pow Wow Committee: thank you for the dedication, sacrifice and love you have given over the past 12 months - especially throughout these incredibly busy final weeks:

Brenda Poitras
Chelsea Poitras
Gaylene Anaquod
Gwendy Anaquod
Shaii Anaquod
Tash Cappo
Donna Okeeweehow
Marilyn Okeeweehow

Bruce Cappo of the legendary Cappo Brother’s singing group

And a very special thank you to our Pow Wow Committee Chair, Lillian Campbell, for her leadership, commitment and tireless work in bringing everything together.

Some committee members may now be stepping away, but their contribution will remain. You helped plant the roots of our Pow Wow’s future. These inaugural years have created the blueprint for how Muscowpetung can welcome our people and host a meaningful, safe and memorable celebration. What you built will continue to grow for generations.

We also thank the many dignitaries, leaders and special guests who came to celebrate with us.

To our members who travelled home from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Ontario and beyond - welcome home, and thank you for making the journey. We said we were committed to bringing our people together, and this week’s Pow Wow was a powerful example of that promise in action.

Children in care returned home. Children took part in ceremony. Traditional names were given. Families reconnected and new memories were created.

We sang. We danced. We laughed. We cried. We healed together.

Thank you to the sponsors and partners whose generosity helped make this celebration possible:

To every dancer, singer, drummer, Elder, Knowledge Keeper, volunteer, employee, vendor, security worker, medical worker and visitor: Mīkwēc. Each of you contributed to the spirit of this gathering.

Every year, we will listen, learn and grow. We will continue working to make each Pow Wow safer, stronger and more welcoming than the year before.

Our Pow Wow is becoming much more than an annual event. It is becoming a bridge home for our people - a place where our children can hear the songs, learn the dances, receive their names and understand that they belong to something beautiful and enduring.

Long after the final drumbeat fades, what remains is the connection we have renewed with one another. These are the memories our children will carry forward. These are the roots from which Muscowpetung’s future will grow.

Until we gather again, travel safely, carry these memories with you and know that you will always have a home at Muscowpetung.

Mīkwēc. We danced for those who came before us, we celebrated those who are with us, and we planted something beautiful for those still to come. 🧡🪶
