As we started our bird play, the children became curious about the blackboard and asked what it said. We read the question together, “How many birds can you find?” They searched for the birds, counted them, and pointed out where they were hiding.
As their play continued, the children used leaves, sticks, pinecones, feathers, and other materials to make their own nests. They also became curious about the big eggs and asked what we could do with them. To extend their interest, we continued the experience later with an egg craft. The children added colorful tissue paper to the eggs and sprayed them with water. After the paper was removed, they were excited to see that the colors had transferred and remained on the eggs.

Pumpkin Sink or Float
Today, the children explored our Pumpkin Sink or Float investigation! They began by choosing pumpkins One by one, they placed them into the water, carefully watching what happened.As they continued experimenting, the children noticed that all the small pumpkins floated while the bigger one sank.They also used a magnifying glass to look more closely if the pumpkin reached the bottom. They also used a recording sheet to mark their observations under “Sink” or “Float,” keeping track of their findings as they continued exploring.

Today, the children chose to explore our Pumpkin Carving Station! They were excited and curious as they investigated the pumpkins, using their hands they explored the slimy, squishy textures and used different tools to scoop, scrape, collect the seeds and carve.
Beyond exploring pumpkins, I noticed how this child-led experience created meaningful opportunities for social learning. The children were not only developing their sensory awareness, fine motor skills, creativity, and problem-solving abilities, but also learning how to communicate respectfully, work together, and celebrate shared success.

Naming:
The children explored gratitude through our Thanksgiving sensory tray filled with colorful rice, pretend fruits, pumpkins, and fall leaves. Each fruit represented something special to be thankful for, such as family, friends, toys, our home, and a healthy body.
Noticing:
I noticed the children showing curiosity and playfulness as they scooped, poured, collected fruits, and explored the materials in their own ways. They were also participating as they shared their ideas about the things they were grateful for.
Nurturing:
By providing open-ended materials and encouraging meaningful conversations, we supported the children's creativity, decision-making, and understanding of gratitude while helping them appreciate the people and things around them.

Happy Thanksgiving

Today, we celebrated Thanksgiving with a special family-style lunch. The children had the opportunity to choose their food, serve themselves, and decide how much they wanted to eat. This encouraged independence, confidence, patience, and respect for others.
As we enjoyed our meal together, we also talked about the things we are grateful for, such as our families, friends, food, and the little things that make us happy. It was a wonderful way to practise gratitude and enjoy time together as our dayhome family.

Recognizing Emotions
We started by naming the emotions on the wall. The children were seeking as they noticed the different expressions and connected them to feelings they knew.
During the story, they were participating by sharing when they felt different emotions and showing playing and playfulness by copying the expressions with their faces.
They continued seeking and persisting as they created emotion faces with loose materials, then built spaces for them using matching magnetic tiles and pretend food. The responsive environment supported their choices and ideas while helping them learn to respect and care for everyone’s feelings.
