From the Farm to Our Table

This weekend we harvested haskap berries at a friend’s farm. I turned them into homemade jam for our mighty learners. Every spoonful was made with love — and the berries are for them too!

Today we headed to the pond. We gathered together and read the book “I Am Courage: A Book of Resilience” by Susan Verde, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds.

The story reminded us that our mighty learners are capable, strong, and important. The children listened closely and talked about times they felt brave.

After story time, we headed to the yellow playground to explore more and play! The children ran, climbed, and used their courage to try new things.

This experience supported children’s social-emotional development, sense of belonging, and resilience. Through stories and outdoor play, our learners practiced courage, confidence, and community.

Angel Gabriel Ice Cream Shop

Today our ice cream pretend play was a huge hit with our mighty learners.
As Olivia arrived, she immediately went to our ice cream shop and began to play. She took initiative and delegated roles to her friends. Olivia said, “Tamira, you are going to be the server.” She then invited Lucas, Jack, Harper, Mia, Aarush, and Luis to be the customers.

While Olivia was serving, Jack shared that he likes vanilla flavor. Olivia listened and mixed the crochet ice cream scoops to create it. Harper pointed to her favorite color and asked for purple to be added to her ice cream. Everyone waited patiently for their turn to be served.

Participation:
Our mighty learners showed participation as they shared ideas and negotiated roles together. They worked as a team to run the shop.

Literacy & Communication: Children used vocabulary and early literacy as they read the menu, placed orders, and chose flavors.

Mathematics:
Our mighty learners demonstrated math skills as they counted scoops and explored concepts of "full" and "less" while pouring toppings.

Creativity & Self-Expression:
Children showed creativity by mixing colors and inventing their own ice cream combinations.

Sense of Belonging: They shared ideas, took turns, and included everyone in the play. This showed a strong sense of community and belonging.

I was so proud to see Olivia take leadership and include all her friends. This play showed how children learn best through play, imagination, and connection.

Safety

With safety always on my mind, I want to share what we practice with our mighty learners.

Today we talked about the importance of staying together when we are outside. To help me see everyone quickly and keep them safe, we wore matching clothes and used our children’s walking rope during our walk.

Please know that your children’s safety and well-being is always my #1 priority, everywhere we go.
