🔆Spotlight on the classroom🔆

Mrs. Russell's grade 3 class has been busy creating and expressing themselves through art! Once their creations were complete, they took some time to walk around, admire their classmates’ artwork, and appreciate the creativity and unique ideas each person brought to the project.

"Don't worry, I can do this. I watched a YouTube video". 😅😎

For his September Let Grow project, Grade 9 student Morgan took his independence into the kitchen and smoked an incredible pulled pork. He tackled every step himself, from prepping the meat to shredding it like a seasoned pitmaster!

The best part? He brought it in to share with the FMCS staff, complete with buns, sauce, and cheese for lunch. It was downright amazing. Way to go, Morgan!

Gabby took on the checkout line all on her own for her Let Grow September project! She scanned her items, selected payment, and completed the transaction without adult intervention.

Independence builds resilience. When kids tackle real-world tasks, they prove to themselves that they are capable, confident, and ready to navigate the world around them.

An awesome day for both the boys and girls volleyball teams during this pre-season exhibition tournament. Both teams played extremely well with the boys winning both games and the girls splitting their first game and just falling short in their second game after a very competitive game against Ecole McTavish.

Special thanks to coaches Vroom, Gouthro, Huygen, and Huygen 2. Keep up the great work and God's best as you continue getting ready for the season ahead!

Wow! Look at these amazing Let Grow stories and moments from Mrs. Russell's Grade 3 class in September!

Elijah ✈️ — Shared all about his trip to Tulum, Mexico, and the adventures he experienced.
José 🗑️ — Helped out at home by taking out the trash with his little sister.
Charlotte 👩‍🍳 — Enjoyed creating new dishes, trying different flavours, and adding a little singing to her cooking.
Leo 🏒 — Shared his love of hockey, scoring goals, and cheering on his team.
Jaylynn🏡 — Shared about her weekends at home, helping around the house, making desserts, and spending time with her sister.
Clara 🧀 — Made her very own grilled ham and cheese sandwich—with a generous helping of “more butter… more butter… and maybe a little more butter!” 😂 She also loves singing while she cooks.
Crew 🌮 — Made tacos for dinner and took part in creating a meal for his family.
Valour 🚜 — Learned how to start and maneuver a lawn mower and tackled the large lawn at the camp lot, finally fulfilling his longtime dream of “lawning the grass.”

The Junior High had an amazing time today for land based learning at Maqua Lake. With the help of Elder Lorraine and Elder Claire students learned new skills including the following:

Outdoor Cooking (bannock)
Outdoor Shelter
Fire Starting
Nature Walk (Learning which plants to eat and utilise)

We could not have asked for a more beautiful day to be out in God's creation. These hands-on opportunities gave them a practical chance to solve problems, learn from the land, and see what they can accomplish on their own.

We are grateful to Elder Lorraine and Elder Claire for sharing their time, wisdom, and traditional knowledge with our students. Days like this remind our students that God made them capable, resilient, and ready to learn through the world around them.

"This month, my Let Grow project was riding the bus to school all by myself. At first I was scared because I always went everywhere with my mom and dad, and now I had to find my own seat and sit with kids I didn't even know. My tummy felt like it had butterflies in it! But I got on the bus anyway, and I found a seat, and I did it. Now I love meeting new kids on the bus every day. Mom, I found my own seat and made a friend!"

From her parents: Watching her hesitate at the bus door and then climb up on her own was harder for us than it was for her, honestly. We knew this year would mean a big shift , going from homeschooling, where she was always right next to us, to being on her own for something as simple (and as big) as getting to school. The biggest change we saw was in her confidence: she went from nervous and unsure to genuinely delighted to meet other kids, all in a matter of weeks. It reminded us that she's ready for more independence than we sometimes give her credit for.

Thank you, Bellatryx, for showing us how brave you are, one bus ride at a time! What an awesome Let Grow moment!!
