“I’m just a stay-at-home parent” are some of the most heart wrenching words I hear. Most often, these are the words of ‘stay-at -home’ mothers who have been led to believe that because they have given up more 'valuable’ work, they are somehow ‘contributing less to society’ and the world at large.
To this notion, I call bu****it. (Yes, I feel that strongly!)
In my opinion, a parent who is in the position to stay at home with their children is contributing no more or no less than a parent who can’t, or chooses not to.
What matters most to our children is not how much time we spend with them but how they feel when they're in our presence.
What they come to believe about themselves as children will last beyond our physical parental presence and will forever influence how they live and love. That’s what ripples out into the world for eternity, so they are our most meaningful contribution.
