📸 A few of our Ridetheory coaches after a day of summer camps in Fernie.

This is what a lot of summer has looked like for them: early mornings, bikes lined up at the trailhead, riding, teaching, answering approximately 400 questions a day, fixing things, encouraging riders, and somehow still having enough energy to ride themselves after work.

Every coach brings their own style, experience and personality to the programs, but they all care about the same thing, helping people become better, more confident riders and have a good time doing it.

They’re the people behind the lessons, the high fives, the small breakthroughs and the big ones too.

We’re really lucky to have this crew.

Left to right: coach Aaron, coach Alexa, coach Quinn. future coach Mat Corkum, coach Alina, coach Creag. Missing: coach Clayton, coach Nathan and our behind the scenes team.

This summer, Coach Aaron and Coach Alexa spent some days celebrating big moments on some very small bikes. A first glide without training wheels. A rider who finally found the confidence to pedal on their own. A child who started the week holding a parent's hand and finished it racing toward another lap.

Our Learn to Pedal program is about building confidence, independence, and a love for being outside on two wheels.

There were plenty of wobbles, countless high-fives, and more smiles than we could count.

One of the best parts of coaching young riders is watching the moment everything clicks. You can almost see it happen. Their shoulders relax, they stop looking at their pedals, and suddenly they're riding. Then they look back with a huge grin that says, "Did you see that?"

We definitely saw it.

A huge thank you to Coach Aaron and Coach Alexa for creating a fun, encouraging, and supportive environment for every rider this season.

Here's to the milestones, the laughter, and all the little riders who discovered just how much fun riding in the Kootenay's is.

We caught up with Matthew Corkum during his lessons with Alina in .

When Matthew Corkum talks about his goals, they aren’t all that different from anyone else’s.

He wants to ride the same trails as everyone else.

He wants to learn from the same instructors as everyone else.

He wants to keep progressing, build confidence, and spend more time on the bike.

That’s what adaptive mountain bike coaching at Ridetheory is all about.

Over the past several months, Matthew and Coach Alina have been working together on everything from pumping and pressure control to navigating steeper descents and more technical terrain. Every lesson is built around Matthew’s goals, his pace, and the skills that will help him keep progressing.

There isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach to coaching riders of all abilities.

Some riders want to improve their cornering. Some want to tackle technical trails. Some want to ride with friends or family. Others simply want to feel more confident on the bike.

Adaptive coaching gives riders of all abilities the opportunity to learn, explore, and experience mountain biking in a way that works for them.

One of the things we love most about coaching is that every rider’s journey looks a little different. The trail might be the same, but the path to getting there is unique.

Matthew continues to remind us that mountain biking should be accessible, inclusive, and shared.

Because everyone deserves the opportunity to challenge themselves, learn new skills, and experience the incredible feeling of riding a trail they never thought possible.

If you’ve been curious about adaptive mountain bike coaching, ir private lessons we’d love to ride with you.

One of our favourite coaching games is the slow race. The rules are simple: be the last rider to cross the finish line without putting a foot down. What starts as a games quickly turns into a lesson in balance, body position, brake control, and improved bike-body separation. Riding slowly takes more skill than you’d think. You can’t rely on momentum to save you and every small movement matters. Sometimes the best way to become a better rider is going faster - it’s slowing it down.

Slow races are one of our favourite coaching drills because they build skills that translate directly to the trail. Better balance, smoother braking, improved body position, bike and body separation, and more confidence. All of these things start to develop faster when we slow things down.

It sounds easy until you try it.

All the fun was had at the Fernie Dirt Jump Camp last week.

It's pretty great watching a group of young riders session together. One kid tries something new, someone else follows, and before long everyone is riding a little faster, getting a little more comfortable, and heading back up for another lap.

Dirt jumps are a great place to work on bike control, body position and confidence but mostly, they’re just a really fun place to ride bikes.

A few shots from a recent Ridetheory session in Fernie with Coach Creag and Coach Quinn. Big thanks to the crew for bringing the energy and putting in the laps.

Every mountain bike destination has its hidden gems. The trails the everyone talks about. The viewpoints worth stopping for. The descents that don't always make the "Top 10" lists but somehow become the rides you remember most.

The challenge is knowing where to find them.

That's where a coach or guide changes everything.

Instead of staring at a trail map or second-guessing your route, you get to focus on what you came for. It's about great riding, good company, and a day that matches your ability and goals.

Want big alpine views? We know where to go.

Looking for flow? Technical singletrack? A hidden lunch spot? We'll build the day around the kind of ride you're looking for.

The best part isn't just finding the right trails. It's the stories, the unexpected viewpoints, the shortcuts between networks, and the confidence that you're getting the most out of your time in the East Kootenays.

Maybe You're visiting BC for the first time or you're a resident looking to discover something new, riding with a guide lets you spend less time planning and more time doing what you came here to do.

We've put together five reasons why riding with a mountain bike guide can add something more to your day on the bike.

Coach Creag, Aaron, Nathan, and Alina have been busy sharing their passion for mountain biking with the next generation of riders all summer long, here in Fernie, BC. Every camp has been filled with dusty tires, laughs, new challenges, and plenty of high fives.

Watching riders build confidence and support one another is what riding bikes is all about. Here are a few snaps from our summer on the trails. Thanks to all the riders and families who make these weeks unforgettable. Can’t wait to ride with you again soon.

Before the wheels hit the dirt, before the shuttle, before your friends start chirping you in the parking lot... take one minute to give your bike a quick ABC Check.
A – Air. Make sure your tires and suspension are where you want them.
B – Brakes. Give them a squeeze and make sure everything feels solid.
C – Chain & Controls. Shift through the gears, check your chain, and make sure your bars, pedals, and controls feel exactly as they should.
It’s not about being overly cautious. It’s about catching the little things before they turn into ride-ending problems halfway down the trail.
We’ve all seen someone spend the first half hour of a ride tightening bolts, fixing a flat that could’ve been avoided, or realizing their brakes aren’t quite right. This can be avoided.
A quick ABC Check won’t replace a good mechanic, but it will help you catch the simple stuff so you can spend more time doing what you came for.
Ride bikes. Have fun. Repeat.
