Today, the Ravens program made its way to Manitoulin Island for a hike at the Cup and Saucer Trail, followed by a quick stop at the beautiful Bridal Veil Falls!

Along the way, students explored the land and learned about common trees, discovered how to make an emergency whistle using an acorn cap, and went salamander hunting. We were lucky enough to find two salamanders!

Students also took in the stunning views of the fall canopy and earned their red physical bead for participating in a hike on the land.

Today, the Ravens Program travelled to Providence Bay and Blue Jay Creek Hatchery on Manitoulin Island in partnership with Manitoulin Streams!
Students learned about salmon spawning, local ecosystems, and the different species of fish found in Ontario. They also gained a better understanding of the important behind-the-scenes work involved in restoring and managing local streams to ensure fish have healthy habitats to return to and spawn each year.

Last year we raised just over $1700 for the TerryFox Foundation. Knowing this benchmark, organizer Mr. Beamish gather the troops and many teachers offered to do some embarrassing thing if we hit certain benchmarks. The final tier was, if we raised $5000, he would shave his head. Knowing the previous years achievement, he was sure that there was absolutely no way his head of hair was ever at risk.

The school community proved him wrong and, with $5088.60 raised, on Friday, he lost his locks!

Terry would have been proud of our school’s achievement this year! Thank you, Mr. Beamish, for organizing this incredibly event, and thank you for every donor and every walker. Together, we can finish Terry’s run.
