🍁 Thanksgiving at the Cottage ❤️

What a wonderful Thanksgiving weekend!

The cottage was full of family, laughter, good food, and all the wonderful chaos that comes with getting everyone together!

We spent time outdoors, enjoyed the beautiful fall weather, and made a few more memories.

One of the highlights was having my dad there, too. 90 years old at the end of this month. He and Mom started it all. We all know how fortunate we are to have him still be able to join us, and how our cottage time is what has brought the family together. ❤️️

As the years go by, I find myself appreciating these moments more and more. It's not about everything being perfect. It's about being together, laughing, playing games, hanging out, and enjoying our time together.

Feeling very grateful for this crazy, wonderful family of ours.

Thanksgiving always feels like a good reminder to stop for a moment and appreciate just how much there is to be grateful for. 🍂

For me, it’s the people first.

My family. The friendships that have lasted through different chapters of life. The new people who have come into my world along the way. And the wonderful community of people I get to work, learn and grow alongside.

I’m grateful for good health, for a home I love, for time at the cottage, for travel and adventures, and for the freedom to enjoy more of the little moments that I probably rushed past earlier in life.

And I’m grateful for the unexpected turns too.

Not every chapter has unfolded the way I thought it would, but some of those detours have led to experiences, people and opportunities I never could have planned.

At this stage of life, I think I appreciate that more than ever.

There is so much joy in simply being able to say:

I really like the life I’m living. And I’m incredibly grateful for the people I get to share it with. ❤️

It seems like yesterday when I got that tap on the shoulder.

“Your services are no longer required.”

After many years in the travel industry, I certainly hadn't imagined that conversation would become a turning point in my life.

But sometimes the moments we didn't plan for lead us to opportunities we hadn't considered.

I didn't want to stop working. I just wanted to work differently.

Today, I'm building a business that allows me to use everything I've learned over the years, while having more flexibility and control over how I spend my time.

And that's something I never take for granted.

I used to think good leadership meant having the answers.

Experience taught me something very different.

On one of our team calls recently, we were talking about cultivating leadership, and three words really stuck with me:

✨ Be the example. ✨

Leadership isn’t really about what you tell other people to do.

It’s how you show up.
How you respond when things don’t go as planned.
Whether you take responsibility for your results.
And whether you’re willing to keep learning and growing yourself.

That’s one of the things I love about the personal development work I do today. It continually challenges me to look at who I’m becoming, not just what I’m achieving.

After many years in corporate (and life!), I’m still learning about leadership.

And maybe that’s exactly the point. 💛

Apparently, success is supposed to have a pretty standard checklist.

The title. The salary. The promotions. The bigger office. The impressive answer when someone asks what you do.

Been there. Checked quite a few of those boxes. 😉

These days, I’m much more interested in deciding what my definition of success looks like.

And funny enough, it has a lot less to do with what looks impressive on paper — and a lot more to do with how I actually want to live, work and spend my time.

I’m still driven. I still have goals. I just reserve the right to change the measuring stick. 😏

I’ve never really understood the idea that at some point we’re supposed to start winding down.

I still love learning, building, and seeing what I’m capable of; I just want plenty of room for golf, travel, family, friends, and everything else that makes life fun too.

What an incredible time we are having on our first trip out in "Betty Benz".
Our first overnight was at a drive-in - so fun!
Then on to Pelee Island biking around it.
Then to Wheatley Provincial Park where we've hiked, paddled and relaxed.
This morning I made some business calls and off to the beach this afternoon. ❤️🙏

Harness Your Power.

I chose those words as the name of my business six years ago. Funny thing is, they mean even more to me today than they did then.

For me, harnessing your power isn't about having all the answers or pretending everything is within your control.

It's recognizing where you do have a choice.

✨How you respond.
✨What you're willing to change.
✨What you're willing to learn.
✨And what you decide to do next.

I've learned a lot about that over the past six years, and I'm pretty sure I'm not finished learning yet. 😊

Maybe that's why I still love the name so much.

For a long time, I thought changing direction meant I would somehow be leaving my many years of experience behind.

I couldn't have been more wrong.

The industries may change. The technology definitely changes. And yes, I've had to learn a LOT of new things along the way. 😄

But the ability to connect with people, build relationships, lead, solve problems, figure things out and keep going? I brought all of that with me.

Maybe that's one of the best things about starting something new later in your career.

You’re not starting from scratch. You’re starting from experience.

And there's a lot of power in that.

He’s very big on breaks, fresh air and making sure nobody takes work too seriously.

I have to admit… his leadership style is growing on me. 🐾
