For a little Society built around the idea that music should have room for everybody, this one feels pretty special.

Prom: Rewritten was balloons, crowns, flashing lights, Hamilton requests, and some truly fearless dance moves.

Our $50 decorating budget stretched itself into a tiny prom wonderland. We had floating balloons, twinkle lights, photo backdrops, shiny crowns, and just enough sparkle to make the whole room feel special.

A huge thank you to Guy, Annelise, Liiisa, Cece, Jacks, Jacob, Anna, and David for helping us decorate, haul, tape, untangle, arrange, and bring the good vibes.

And a very special mention to Pacey, whose commitment to balloon placement reached magnificent new heights. Those balloons were not simply decorations. They were a serious artistic undertaking. 🎈

Anna brought two friends, and Auntie Lisa joined us with three of her kiddos, which gave the dance floor even more little feet ready to cause joyful chaos.

Then the kids discovered they could make song requests.

That was it.

Jacks and Jacob began supplying DJ Meg (Meghan) with their Hamilton agenda, the playlist officially belonged to the people, and Meg handled every request like the absolute legend she is.

Then came the Macarena.

Guy and I led the cavalry. The older kids knew it. The younger kids learned it. Arms were flying, timing became optional, and my 1995 Krysi dreams came roaring back to life.

There were crowns.

There were flashy lights.

There were funky dance moves of every possible variety.

And there were so many happy faces.

A very special thank you to Norah, who accepted my invitation, brought a friend, and genuinely showed up to support what we were creating. She was one of the only young adults in the room, and having her there meant a whole lot. 💜

Thank you to Katie and Scott for running the canteen, jumping in wherever they were needed, and for all the other things I do not need to explain because you already know.

Prom: Rewritten was bright, silly, heartfelt, sparkly, and completely ours.

Somewhere between the helium balloons, Hamilton, the crowns, and the Macarena, we made a little pocket of joy.

And honestly?

That is exactly the kind of prom I wanted. ✌️💜

Throwback to 2006…

Twenty years ago, I almost didn’t go to prom.

My long-term boyfriend had just moved away, prom was getting closer, and I still didn’t have a date.

Then, in drama class, someone joked, “Why don’t you just go with Jim?”

I said, “Okay.”

He said, “Okay.”

That was pretty much the entire promposal. 😂

Later he called to make sure I was serious.

I was.

We got dressed up, took way too many digital camera photos, laughed all evening, and made a memory I’ll always smile about.

Looking back, I don’t remember what songs they played or what was on the menu.

I remember feeling included.

And that’s exactly why we’re throwing Prom: rewritten.

Not to relive high school.

To recreate that feeling.

A Broadway Junior adaptation of the Tony-winning musical comedy, The Drowsy Chaperone JR. is a loving satire of the Golden Age musical, featuring hysterical numbers and colorful characters. It is the perfect show for young performers with a knack for musical comedy.

A man shares with the audience his favorite record - the 1928 musical The Drowsy Chaperone. As he plays the record, the show comes to life in his apartment. Mix in two lovebirds on the eve of their wedding, a bumbling best man, a desperate theatre producer, a not-so-bright hostess, gangsters posing as pastry chefs, a misguided Don Juan and a sleepy chaperone, and you have the ingredients for a show that will have everyone laughing.

With plenty of hilarious roles, The Drowsy Chaperone JR. is a fun, delightful show for both performers and their audience.
