It was a pleasure to bring together more than 110 attendees and 20 speakers for Fifty Years of All of Baba’s Children: A Symposium, held at MacEwan University💙💛

On July 11, scholars, writers, artists, students and community members gathered to celebrate the remarkable legacy of Myrna Kostash and reflect on the lasting impact of All of Baba’s Children. Conversations explored Ukrainian Canadian identity, literature, public memory, belonging, truth and reconciliation, and the ways stories continue to connect generations and communities.

The symposium concluded with a community celebration at the ACUA Alberta Council for the Ukrainian Arts and a cultural tour through east-central Alberta, connecting the ideas discussed throughout the symposium with the places and communities that helped shape the book.

We are deeply grateful to everyone who participated and helped make the symposium such a meaningful gathering.

A sincere thank you to our generous sponsors: Shevchenko Foundation Ukrainian Canadian Veterans Fund, St. John’s Legacy Foundation, TYC-Ukrainian Self Reliance Association of Canada- Edmonton Branch, The Ed Stelmach Community Foundation, Ukrainian Foundation for College Education (UFCE), UFCE Trust, Alberta Ukrainian Commemorative Society (AUCS), Ukrainian Pioneers Association of Alberta, Don'ya Ukraine’s Kitchen and Edmonton Community Foundation.

We are pleased to celebrate the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between MacEwan University and the Ukrainian Foundation for College Education (UFCE), marking the next chapter in a partnership that has supported Ukrainian scholarship, education, culture and community engagement for more than 30 years.

Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre is deeply grateful to UFCE for their vision, generosity and steadfast commitment to strengthening Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian studies at MacEwan. Their long-standing support has helped create lasting opportunities for students, faculty, researchers, artists and the broader community through initiatives such as the Peter and Doris Kule Chair in Ukrainian Community and International Development, the Chair of International Health, the Gene Zwozdesky Artist-in-Residence Program, and many other projects.

We were also honoured by the presence of Jackie Armstrong-Homeniuk, MLA for Fort Saskatchewan-Vegreville, whose support and commitment to the Ukrainian community made this occasion even more meaningful.

This renewed partnership will help strengthen Ukrainian and Ukrainian-Canadian studies, research and public programming for years to come.

Thank you, UFCE and UFCE Trust, for your continued partnership and belief in this important work.

Ukrainian Resource and Development Centre is delighted to congratulate Dr. Jeffrey Rice on being named MacEwan University’s new Kule Chair of Ukrainian Community and International Development Research!

Dr. Rice’s research on Ukraine, international security, military affairs and transatlantic relations aligns closely with the mandate of the Kule Chair and the work of the URDC. His SSHRC-funded research explores social transformation in Ukraine following Russia’s illegal full-scale invasion, including the role of crowdfunding initiatives and new technological platforms in contemporary warfare.

We are especially excited that Dr. Rice’s work as Kule Chair will prioritize student engagement, mentorship and collaboration with Ukrainian and Canadian partners. His leadership with MacEwan’s chapter of Women in International Security–Canada also opens meaningful opportunities to highlight the expertise of women in the Ukrainian military and to involve students in important research connected to Ukraine.

Congratulations, Dr. Rice. We look forward to working together and supporting your important research and community engagement in this new role.

Вітаємо, Dr. Rice!
