What does it mean to be an ally? How can one become an ally? Who can be an ally in the fight against systemic anti-Black racism? Well-meaning individuals often used the word “ally” to show solidarity with BIPOC people and communities. Of late, however, the word has become a buzzword, masking its limits and critique.
The BGSA in collaboration with the Peter Lougheed Leadership College is offering a workshop on Allyship and Working Against Anti-Black Racism. Two of our executive Prof-Collins Ifeonu and Zahro Hassan will be conducting this workshop once again on November 2, 2021. The will explore allyship as a verb that requires you as a leader to meaningfully contribute to the fight against anti-Black racism. We will also explore the history of anti-Black racism in Canada, while articulating strategies for effective allyship against the structures that reinforce anti-Black racism.
Graduate, professional and law students from any educational institution are welcome to attend. Registration link in Bio!
