Something a little more powerful and personal while in Croatia last year at the 2025 World Championships.

“This is the man I owe so much.. 8 months ago to the day I was having a heart attack. Dr. Nav Dhaliwal was the volunteer doctor accompanying Team Canada to Croatia, where I would coach my two athletes. Without his intervention and advice, would I have been wise enough to go to the Poreč clinic, where they sent me by ambulance 90 km to go to cardiology in Rijeka? Just three hours after leaving the hotel the procedure took place and I was out of danger.

Today I want to honor this man and say a huge thank you from the bottom of my heart. My gratitude is endless Thank you Nav Dhaliwal It was pure pleasure to bump into you again in Brampton in April during the ITF North American & Caribbean Championships Thanks again for everything.”

Today we celebrate the 71st Anniversary of the naming of Taekwon-Do.

Today, April 11, 2026, we celebrate the 71st anniversary of the naming of Taekwon-Do.

On 11 April 1955, the name Taekwon-Do was officially presented, marking the beginning of a journey that would grow into a global martial art practiced by millions. For 71 years, Taekwon-Do has represented discipline, respect, perseverance, and continuous self-development.

Our global community continues to honor this legacy through shared milestones. And just three weeks ago, we also celebrated the 60th anniversary of the International Taekwon-Do Federation, marking six decades of dedication to developing and preserving Taekwon-Do worldwide.

As we mark 71 years since the naming of our art, we celebrate our history and look forward to the future together.

Kodiak families, just a quick heads up that we’ll be on a scheduled training break from April 3rd to April 6th. This is a short reset to recharge, recover, and get ready for the next push on the mats. Take the time to stay active, stretch, and keep your body moving. Today, March 22, 2026, we proudly celebrate the 60th anniversary of the International Taekwon-Do Federation.

From its founding in 1966 to a global family spanning over 100 countries, the ITF continues to carry forward the vision of General Choi Hong Hi and the true spirit of Taekwon-Do.

Behind this milestone lies a powerful story—one that goes beyond technique, into perseverance, conviction, and the dream of a young and sickly calligraphy student who helped shape our art.

On this special occasion, we invite all members of our ITF family to reflect on our shared history and rediscover the origins of what unites us.
