Thanks to Prisma Research Group for inviting us to the opening of their “What’s you thing” exhibition at the McMullen (inside the Stollery Hospital at the University of Alberta)

Check it out!!

The exhibition will be on display at the McMullen: After Hours Gallery from September 7 to November 6, 2026.

What’s Your Thing? explores the deep interests and inner worlds of people on the autism spectrum, encouraging us to connect beyond a diagnosis and celebrate our shared humanity. Through photography, the exhibition honours each person’s uniqueness by highlighting their specific interests and passions, and inviting all of us to reflect on the things that bring meaning and joy to our own lives.

The exhibition is presented by Precision Medicine in Autism (PRISMA) in partnership with the University of Alberta, Neuroscience and Mental Health Institute, CASA Mental Health, Recovery Alberta, Positive Exposure, and Autism Edmonton.

It started with a routine hearing test — and a stranger asking one simple question. 💬

When Stacey brought three-year-old Brynn to the Grey Nuns Hospital for a hearing test, Brynn had only a handful of words. A passing staff member asked, "Have you heard of CHEEP?" Stacey hadn't — but that conversation changed everything.

CHEEP (Corbett Hall Early Education Program) supports young children with communication disorders — and within days of joining, Brynn was using words her parents had never heard from her. Today, at seven, her teachers say you'd never know she once had a significant speech delay.

And the program gave her family something extra: a community of parents who remain close friends to this day. ❤️

"They gave her such a good start, and I can never be thankful enough," Stacey says.

If you know a family navigating similar challenges, don't wait for a chance encounter — learn more about CHEEP at uab.ca/cheep
